just got a dead cpu form a friend that did not OC his 2400 right. my question for every one is:

would a L12 mod work on a dead cpu?

well when i got the cpu and pluged it into my abit an7, i got a code that says "failed overclock".
now i dont know if he tried to overclock it but this code says failed overclock. after reading a lil about the L12 mod, i was not sure if it could apply to a more than likely dead cpu

1. put in your old (working) cpu.

2. go into bios, set auto mutliplier and 100MHz FSB.

3. put 'dead' chip in

4. boots then its ok, if not then id say its dead

for it not posting it could be that it is locked and you have the wrong multiplier set, or that the FSB is too high. by testing your old working chip you know that nothing else is at fault either.
