L1 Bridge Unlocking

On the T-bird, the L1 pads that have to be connected for unlocking (and all the other L's) are very close together...

I was wondering why so many people are doing the rear defrogger kit or the Lead pencil trick? Seems to me that adding a dab of solder across each one of those jumpers would be extremely easy. A very quick dab would probably work due to the gold pads, and their small size. Unless there is some extreemely heat sensitive trace/device under there, why haven't more people tried this?

I guess I have a lot of experience soldering so maybe I have more confidence about the procedure?!?!

you can't really fault folk who don't want to unintentionally damage their cpu by trying soldering when pencilling is so simple & reversible!

Good point. I just have a hard time believe that a pencil lead is that conductive... since most are made of some form of graphite.

But, point well taken. I may just have to go the pencil route, and if it works, then no need to permanently "fix" my chip.

Thanks...

Go with a conductive pen. I used the CAIG Labs, Inc. Circiut Writer. Worked like a charm. I first put the ink onto a piece of paper, and applied it with a toothpick and magnifying glass. Trust me, this is better than the pencil trick, which just didn't seem to want to work for me.

I would do the defogger or pen if I were you because Graphite isn't a great conductor and not all pens have the same amount of graphite. creating a metal bridge between the contacts theoretically should provide a better connection and therefore less chance of failure.
