kids will just bring pop with them. The entreprenuers of the future will bring coolers of pop and sell them at lunch time.

still a retarded rule

Is it really that big a deal that you think someone would actually go to the trouble of doing this? That would work for about the amount of time it would take for someone to report it to the principals office and the principal to arrive on the scene and shut it down. Our local school system does not allow soda to be sold during school hours and I have not seen any mass protests, students fainting from lack of a soda fix, or entrepeneurs setting up shop at the schools. I really think LA County school kids can live for 8 hours a day without a soda pop.

Now the schools will have to find another way to raise funds. Too bad. Always thought it was stupid having them in schools. Maybe they could switch to fruit drinks.

It's understandable, all that sugar and caffeine CANT help when trying to learn. Private school's have been doing this for some time now.

what the fvck are you talking about?! with out soda and coffee i would have probably failed out of college.

🙂 Agreed.

My school doesn't permit soda sales from about 730 (start of school) to 2:30 (15 minutes after the end of school). So I've got a cooler in my locker, buy a few sodas (or bring some in from home) before school, and slowly kill them off through the periods (bottles so they have caps). No offense, but without soda I'd be sleeping through more then a few of my classes. And have you ever tasted half of the crap the school gives you in those 1/2 pints? Horribly flavored fruit punch, spoiled milk/chocolate milk(more of a slime then a real liquid), and the orange juice is the only thing half decent. Don't get me started on the lunches...let's just say my school uses a cheese powder (which tastes like chalk) instead of real cheese on the pizza/pizza bagels. And this is after a raise of 50cents for supposed better lunches.

Edit: BTW, in NY, Long Island

thats pretty bull, i don't drink soda at all (acctually i can't), but i don't see that making me healthy 😛

i think it's a good move. the only reason i drank soda was because it was there. i never brought it from home.

warning to those who bring from home: BE CAREFUL NOT TO PUNCTURE IT WHILE IT IS IN YOUR BAG

my gf punctured her sprite and it destroyed her ti-86. : \

its just stupid, they just encourage people to tote soda to school. if they really cared about health they would sell juice and water bottles for 25cents. and soda for a dollar. make sense? which would you buy? there you go😛 doesn't coke own minute maid anyways? stupid school admin.

same with food. they should sell good salads(not the gross stale cr@p i remember) for 25-50cents, and french fries/burgers for a lot more.

To me it does not matter because i do not eat anything, i do not drink anything, and i do not go to the bathroom at school. I mean heck even if i did want the chips and drink it would not matter because i already drink a lot and eat chips but it never makes me gain any weight. Don't know why really. Seems like i am the only one sorta but i enjoy it for sure.

I find it funny to see all of those addicted to caffeine ("I would have failed college without my soda", "Better than falling asleep", etc.) trying to rationalize why they should have their soda in school.

You guys should really try kicking the caffeine habit, even if just for a month. You'll find after a while without caffeine, that you will actually be alert and awake in the morning without having to down a can of soda or cup of coffee. Not to mention way fewer headaches.

Give it a try sometime. 🙂

bad idea.

1. the smart ones will bring their own (would save mucho money), or will buy some at the local convenience store before school
2. this just robs the schools of the money they get for "selling out" to the big coke companys

so basically it does little to nothing to curb coke consumption, and takes away money from schools....

GG L.A.

Wow, that is so lame.. there was nothing better on a hot day than sitting by the lunch cart drinking a cold coke while talking about the Quake 3 IHV.

Thats a pretty big decision to ban soda, i heard on tv that the average LA school gets about 39,000 dollars a year from soda sales...this money goes to athletics and other school oriented activities...

It's nothing but a PC move intended to pacify all the Maude Flanders types out there crying "oh won't someone think of the children?" The school is doing nothing more than caving in to the please protect us from ourselves crowd. That and covering theirs asses for when Johnny McFatass' Dad files a lawsuit blaming the fact that they sold soda for his son being fat, his wife being ugly, and his inability to get it up.

I'm sure all the kids will get over it. My school doesn't allow pop (here in minnesota we call "soda" pop) to be sold during school hours. If you absolutely must have pop, drink it before or after school.

I already kicked the caffeine habit a year ago. I've had one caffeinated drink since then and that was to try out the Vanilla Coke. But honestly I'm getting more sleep now anyways. In high school I was a wreck and caffeine definitely kept me awake. Now my sleeping habits are much better though and I definitely don't need the caffeine. You are right though, I've definitely felt better since dropping it. The only bad thing was the couple weeks of headaches I had to endure while going through withdrawl, but after that it was smooth sailing.

Glad that's not my school :Q I don't know what I'd do without Mello Yello 🙂

from lunch to the end of the day my schedule is like this:

Lunch
Homeroom
English
Biology
Algebra

So I definitely need the caffeine 😀

Heh, school bans "pokemon/mtg" cards, students just are a little more careful.

School bans "gameboys", students just get a little more careful

School bans "cd players", students just get a little more careful

NO matter what they do, we (i'm 8 years old) adapt

And those that are supporting the ban, where will schools get money to fund athletic events, proms, rallies, books, ETC? Schools don't really make much off the $1.50 lunch or the $2 ID Card replacement cost. They make it off the sodas ($4000 3 month contract with coca cola) and snack machine items (buy it at costco for $.25 each, sell it at $.75 each).

Yes dances, proms, atheletic events were probably too much for the typical AT nerd, but what about the non-typical at nerds (cmon, at least 10% here had social lives? 🙂)

What you mean aspartame? You believe that propoganda? I'd sooner take injections of the stuff rather than down pounds of pure sugar every year...
Doesn't it create minute amounts of formaldehyde in the body?

Anyways, back to the topic at hand. I don't think it's that big of a deal. Yes, organizations make s#itloads off of it (last year 3 soda machines in our tech building made a 12 grand profit), but it's probably better for teens in the long run. Not to mention that anyone can bring soda from home. And to whoever says it's a hassle to carry a can/bottle of soda, then your school must have prohibited backpacks, bags, and lockers, and you can't bear to carry one pound of liquid around with you. Not to mention it's much cheaper. If anything, i'd start a black market for code red out of my locker and profit. I mean, go to Wal Mart, buy a 12 pack of 24. oz soda for 5 bucks, sell 6 of them for a buck, and get profit + free soda.

*yawn* if only they sold coffee in school...

my old highschool with nearly 5k students sold out to pepsi for millions. they didn't allow lockers cuz ppl stored guns, drugs and knives in those, so we had to lug our books around all day.

i used to drink probably 80 oz of soda a day in high school.

maybe drink 15 oz now.

i dont think i've really lost any weight, but i'm a little taller now, so now i'm skinny instead of normal sized.
