I am going to be building a computer pretty soon and want to know what u recommend for a vid card. I will be running win2k with 1.2 ghz or greater tbird, expox 8k7a, 512 DDr crucial, turtle beach but am wondering about video.

I already have a Elsa gladiac gf2 gts , and a MSI starforce gf2 pro so would i like to go with something new (not there is anything bad with my GF2's they are great cards) and i dont want to dish out $$ for a GF3. I might consider waiting for RADEON II or a Kyro III, if the price is right, but am not sure about that. I am concerned with performance under win2k only. I would like your feedback thanks.

Keep your current cards, they have excellent win2k drivers. And the Kyro is very buggy at this time.

Keep your Geforce 2 Pro. On most games, it will perform faster than a KyroII or a Radeon. Then when the Radeon 2 OR next NVIDIA product comes out, you can get one of those. Or you can just get a Geforce 3 when the Radeon 2 comes out. It should be cheaper than what its going for now. I think getting a Radeon or KyroII is a waste right now since you already have a Geforce 2 Pro.

the kyro is not buggy...
that is my experience ...

with kyro last driver update I don't see any issues in any of my games. (and I have many many games)
maybe it's only me...
;)

my only problem was that I needed to tweak colin mcrae2 for more 50% more performance (a little tweak in the registry...)
that is my only problem with kyro 2... one game that I needed to tweak with last drivers..
;)

yap there will be always issues but that is true also with radeon or with geforce look at all the posts regarding geforce or radeon problems here...

i would just keep your geforce 2 pro for now, and get a geforce 3 or radeon II later. if you play any tribes 2, you definitely want to stay with your geforce 2 pro. the kyro II is notorious for being very slow in Tribes 2. besides some particular issues such as tribes 2 the kyro is a good card, but i don't think it offers any real benefits over your pro. by the way, ironduke, have you seen a geforce 2 pro and a kyro II on the same system? a friend of mine just built a 1.2 gHz axia @1.45 gHz, with 256 MB PC2100 and the geforce 2 beat the kyro II in just about anything by a fairly considerable margin. the kyro is a good card, but it hardly "tonks" the geforce 2 pro.

Keep your Pro. No reason to downgrade, unless you have some specific problems with it.

Ironduke-you are making bigger fool out of yourself with every post :)

keep the geforce2 pro. getting a kyro will give you no beneficial boost in performance, and Nvidia has arguably the best drivers for win2k

and ironduke is probably acting like a fool because hes craving for attention :p

For win2k, the kyro2 suppose to do better thant he Radeon. Since you have two GF2 already. I think a Kyro2 would be a good choice. It is a good idea to try out other products too.

keep your pro, and save for a bigger upgrade. Even if the Kyro II is better than the pro (which I doubt), it wouldn't be that much of a difference. Save the money and get a Geforce 3 when they drop in price.

I would keep the Pro for now and upgrade to a Kyro 3 this winter. I mean sheesh, by the way people talk the GF3 is gonna be 200 bucks in a week! Uh uh..get a Kyro III when it ships..for no other reason that it should be able to beat the Gfarce 3 by at least 20% on everything. And it'll prolly cost less even then.

Ignore the PowerVR zealots and keep your GF2 Pro. In most cases it will beat a Kyro2.

uau...
you all miss his point...

he his building a new system (his geforce 2 pro will stay with his previous system)

go for the kyro 2 you can't be wrong... you will see better performance than even geforce 2 pro with most games...(radeon will be left far behind)
kyro 2 drivers in win2k are rock solid...(the same performance as win98)

please before starting to say (keep your geforce 2 pro) please read more carefully !!!
I usually read the topic before starting to do any reply to it...

tribes 2 with kyro 2 with latest drivers AND DIRECTX8.1 BETA BUILD 620 is smooth..
kyro 2 is now better than geforce 2 pro with tribes 2...(especially with an athlon 1,2)
;)

and please take notice that there are more nvidia zealots than kyro zealots..

I agree with powervr2 the kyro II is a great option and is cheap. i love my kyro II no complaints works great on all my games i have many also. 4X antialising is truly breathtaking and doesnt seem to hurt any gameplay at all.

If its between Kyro II and Radeon the Kyro II will be faster in the system your building in just about all games. So you should go for the Kyro II.

ironduke and powervr2 are wounded nvidia children. No matter what, they will always say the KyroII is the best card to get. I was telling you to wait to make an informed decision with a next generation card when they come down in price because I thought you were like me and had a couple of extra NVIDIA Geforce cards lying around. My personal preference here would be a close tie between the the Geforce 2 Pro and Radeon 64 ViVo (with the faster memory) since they are about the same price. The Geforce 2 series has performed very stable for me and I have never had to edit registries or play around with the options to get the games to play at acceptable levels. I have had to do so with the ATI cards. But the ATI does give you ViVo and good image quality too and comparable performance to the KyroII. But the drivers for the Geforce 2 are still better imho. I am not saying the ATI drivers are bad. I am just saying the NVIDIA drivers are better. I own a Geforce 3 and there is not a video card out there that I would trade it for. Check out these benchmarks:

im not saying that any card is better or worse, but i will say that i am very impressed with my kyro II. bueatiful 2d quality, crisp text, much better than my older voodoo, and any other nvidia card i have seen at friends houses. i also thought serious sam looked phenomenal! i was way surprised to see that run flawlessly and smooth at 1024x768x32. can anyone tell me how to get the framerates out of serious same? i use win2k AS exclusivley and i cant be any happier with it! i have to admit, at first i was worried about the quality and speed, but it really rocks!

I just bought a KyroII and even though the 2D is better than any Nvidia card, it still kind of looks funny, especially the colors. I would prefer something alonfg the lines of ATI's 2D quality. I really don't understand why most companies don't give a hoot about 2D I.Q. these days, I think that's terrible!

If it is a choice between the Radeon and Kyro 2, get the Kyro 2. ATI just flat out sux when it comes to writing drivers. And, the Kyro 2 spanks it in FSAA speed and 16bit rendering (if you play any older games that are 16bit color)

As for GF2 Pro and Kyro 2. Speedwise they will be comparable. Nvidia has good drivers. The 2d quality is very erratic across the GF line of cards. Kyro 2 has very good 2d image quality. I personally have a Kyro 2 in a 2nd machine, and a GF3 in my main machine. The Kyro 2 hasnt given me any major problems at all, and for the price it is hard to beat

pidge, the point is he doesn't want the same card in his new system, he already has a Pro in another system so why get another in his new system when instead he can get a different card and he'll have a better variety of cards to play with, thats what he wants. So the options he has are Radeon and Kyro II (there the only ones at reasonable prices), I think powervr2 and Ironduke are perfectly justified in advising him to go with the Kyro II as its performance will be higher then the Radeon in just about all games in that new system and then there's the fact that the Radeon's Win2k drivers just aren't as stble and fast as its Win98 drivers (infact there a whole lot slower) while the Kyro II's Win2k drivers are just as stable and just as fast as its Win98 drivers, so in Win2k the Kyro II would be a whole lot faster then the Radeon and he wants to use Win2k.

Gosh, right now is such a bad time to buy video cards. All of the next gen cards are scheduled to come out soon and geforce 3 prices will be dropping, any card you buy now will be obsolete very soon. i suggest getting an geforce ultra for $230, at least you'll have the best card of the current generation of vid cards. It will last you longer than any of these other cards. if you plan on upgrading soon, get a kyro or a geforce pro, you can't go wrong with either of them. I say try em both out and see which one you like.
