Kyro II Release Day!!

Powercolor are producing a Kyro II that will be out late April or early may and also Videologic systems should be producing a card (Videologic System are a part of Imagination Technologies the company behind the tile based rendering architecture in the Kyro II chip). Also INNO3D are supposed to be making a Kyro II board, and from pure speculation that I've heard around the various message boards Creative will be producing a Kyro II board instead of a Geforce 3 board.

I wouldn't touch powercolor nor Inno3d. A lot of people are pissed off because of a required bios update, they refuse to release or act as if it isnt needed. Vidoelogic makes good hardware and are always on top of updates.

I have to disagree with you. I have Inno3d and love it. Great card. Low price, great performance, 100% stable. I'm not the only one either. There are also benchmarks with good results and ratings. Also I don;t know what you are talking about with the bios updated. I haven't had to do anything like that. I will just update the reference drivers when Nvidia releases new stuff.

Good to have "new blood" and perhaps a little competition for NVidia & ATI.......but one bad.....Creative is making a GF3.....it's already been advertised.....😉

I read the press release from Creative stating that they are NOT making a Geforce3 board. I'll be grabbing either the Hercules or Elsa Geforce3 anyway.

Formulav8: I should have been more clear. I meant the Inno3d and Powercolor Kyro boards. These were based on the first Kyro chip

Why the hell wouldn't Creative release a GF3???? They are one of nVidia's biggest partners...Creative would lose a ton of money...

Can I see a link to that press release? Not that I'm calling you a liar or anything, I just think that would be a extremely stupid...

Noriaki,

From what I read their profit margins are below their standards, so no GF 3 offering. Kindof difficult to believe isn't it?

if the win2k performance is good and the 2D is ATi matrox 3dfx quality, i think i've found my next vid card.

april 1st? doubt it. its a sunday. new hardware doesn't come out on sundays, just like new CDs don't.

Creative have stated that with the projected retail cost of GF3, and the profit margins involved make it unworthy of a release at this time. They also state that they are in doubt that Nvidia will be able to manufacture enough chips to withstand shortages due to the upcoming Xbox release. Mention was also made of their doubt that a card at that price point could maintain a market presence.
BTW Creative aren't the only big name to ditch the GF3.

I can't find the Creative press release about them not offering a Geforce3 board guys. UKtaxman, pretty much summed it up though.

For proof of this take a look at the Sharky Extreme Kyro II

preview:http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/previews/hercules_3dprophet_4500_kyro2/

This preview shows W2k against W98 performance for 3 different card including the Kyro II and mentions 2d quality as well.

NOTE!!: the Kyro II used in this preview is an early sample which is only running at 166mhz which is a slower clock rate then the card Anand had, the final retail board will be 175mhz (the same speed as the board Anand had) so expect these Sharky benches to improve for the final product.
