Kyro II Performance in Tribes 2 and Creative Labs Kyro II?

Anyone able to post some numbers for 3DMark 2000 with the Kyro II on a system over 1gighz? I'm currently looking to upgrade my system to an Amd Duron 900Mhz and the Kyro II. From what I hear, the Kyro II and the Geforce 3 are the only 2 video cards that offer continued increase in frame rates as your processor speed goes over 1.2gigs and the Kyro II Win2k drivers perform about exactly the same as the Win98 drivers, so theres no degrade in performance. However, I would like to know if there are any problems the Kyro II has in Win2k and Tribes 2. Does the Kyro II perform as good as the Geforce GTS card in Tribes 2? Thanks for any replies as I really need to make a decision regarding a Kyro II or a GTS card...

Here is the most in depth review of the Kyro that I've found:
Kyro2

BTW, anyone happen to know anything about this? (from digit-life headlines)
Our sources close to Creative informed us that the company is going to be back to graphics market with its KYRO/KYRO II based solutions soon. According to them these solutions are much better than NVIDIA's in terms of the production cost.

Alot of questions, but knowledge is a good thing.

Got a 5357 on a 3DMARK2000 with a kyro II/athlon 1.2/win98 (1024x768x32). I am using the 7.103 drivers and I haven't changed any settings yet.

Tribes2 looks excellent with this card. I've got almost all the graphic options maxed (I did turn off the sky) and it's pretty smooth.

FWIW, This is the top 6 of the comparison from madonion of the athlon 1.2 with other cards on the 3DMARK2000.

(at 1024x768x32)

6549 NVIDIA GeForce2 Ultra
5357 3D Prophet 4500
5186 NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS/Pro
4862 NVIDIA GeForce2 Ultra
4757 NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS/Pro
4485 ATI RADEON DDR

are you using directx7 ?
I am getting better results with directx7 much better results...
(not better results than you I have a duron 800, but much better than directx8 )

I am waiting for directx8.1 final to put directx8 finnaly with my kyro...
my last score in windows 98 and 1024x768x32 was 4102 duron 800 without overclocking.

Is that an OEM card that you got Ubik? If it is, can you tell me the core and memory speed on it? I was just wondering if the oem version was clocked the same as the retail box. Thanks for your reply. Those 3DMark scores are really tipping me to purchase the Kyro2.

PowerVR2: What DirectX bug are you referring to? Does it decrease performance on the Kyro II by alot?

it's not a true bug...
when they deliver directx8 (microsoft) disable some kyro 2 features (rendering into textures is the most important of them), they said that they didn't have any kyro to perform some testing, so they did that for kyro2, they weren´t sure about kyro stability in windows with those feature enabled.

this could be corrected with:
1º new set of drivers that force directx8 to accept those feature.
2º new directx8 release to enable those features.

I bet that with directx8.1 final release it will be all ok!
I saw this on a powervr site.

"Geneva, May 24, 2001 - STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM) today announced that its KYRO II? 3D Graphics Accelerator has successfully passed Windows Hardware Quality Lab (WHQL) testing, confirming KYRO II's hardware and software compatibility with Microsoft's Windows operating system. WHQL certification for KYRO II means that PC OEMs and system builders worldwide can take advantage of KYRO II's unprecedented combination of frame rate performance and image quality."

now they know that it's ok to enable those features...
these features are emulated in directx8,8.1 beta by the cpu so kyro loses a lot score.

it loses a lot when games in direct3d use those features (3dmark 2k,2k1 for example), in some games this is not an issue when those games don't use those features...

rendering into textures (for shadows etc..) is the most important feature that is disabled... I think it's the only features that is disabled in directx8.1 beta, but this is a important feature in 3dmark)

Got the retail box. I haven't changed anything, so I am assuming it's running 175/175.

I'm using directx 8a. I guess I'll wait for 8.1 and watch my score go higher.

Gonna go play tribes2 now...

I'm playing in OpenGL. I haven't tried the D3D for T2.

Did you install the latest openGL? If you go here http://www.glsetup.com/where.htm and look for the GLSetup for the web section, click on "Download the 200kb Web GLSetup v1.0.0.121". It has support for the Kyro.

if you didn't install that glsetup from that game then it would work fine...

I never had tribes 2 but most newer games come with glsetup.. I bet that you had installed it.

why don't you install again your kyro drivers?
try to remove them and install them again I am sure that problem would be corrected
