(1) It should be out by Q4 of 2001.
(2) It'll have T&L and most likely be clocked higher than the Kyro2.

Kyro 3 is rumored to be a completely different architecture that K1 and K2. T&L and a hefty speed increase - on one chip.

It should not be just a die shrink, add transistors, and boost clock speed kind of revision like the K2 is.

Hope the T&L is programmable! ;)

Hmm I dont think they added trnasistors to the kyro2. Almost every vodeo chip company makes refresh parts of their parts so whats your point? a gf2 is a gf on .18 micron process. same with tnt and tnt2.

Transistors were added from what I have read on the various Kyro 1 v. Kyro 2 pages. S3TC has been added in hardware on the Kyro 2. With a die shrink it becomes possible to add transistors (lengthening pipelines) and up the core frequency.

There is nothing wrong with a refresh product. I didn't say that there was. With all the criticism, fairly or unfairly leveled on the Kyro 2 for being a refresh product, I just wanted to make the point that Kyro 3 was not a mere refresh product at all, but a departure from the old architecture.

Kyro3, for sure, will different from k1 and 2 as the end of this year, everything will be based on dx8.

there's no way, a dx6 architecture chip can handle dx8's games and run at a playable speed.

Yes there is(DRONEZ runs at a steady 60fps) and I would hardly describe it as a DX6 part. Thats like calling the GF2 a DX6 part!

Kyro II didn't add S3TC into hardware with the transistor jump. S3TC was already in hardware for Kyro 1, some people think it wasn't because Kyro 1 didn't have S3TC in early drivers. The reason for this was simply that IMGTEC didn't have the licence for S3TC which changed just as Kyro 1 was officially released and then it was added into drivers.

The added transistors in Kyro II were a redesign of the critical pathways in the chip to help with the speed jump from 115mhz to 175mhz.

Okay - well there you have it then :) Transistors were added.

Love my Kyro 2 - can't wait for this fall - Radeon 2, an affordable GF3, Kyro 3... still waiting for that ooooooooh feeling I got when I fired up my Voodoo2 SLI setup sooooo long ago. Quantum leaps in eye candy kick ass!
