KVM Switch question

I'm going to purchase a 2-port KVM switch in order to use both of my systems here at college. One will be on a DC++ hub 24/7, and the rig in my sig will be my primary computer. Now, I want to use a dual display setup with my 9800 Pro, but have the secondary monitor connected to the KVM to switch over to the other computer. Here is a little diagram if you don't understand my haphazard explanation.

I'm sure this is possible, but what would happen if I switched over the secondary monitor to the other computer while still in dual monitor mode on my 9800 pro system? I suppose I could always disable the second monitor before switching over to the other computer, but that seems like a hassle. Any input would be appreciated.

Oh, and instead of making an additional thread, I'll ask this one here too. I plan on sticking an NIC in the NJIT computer and using ICS to allow my primary machine access to the network. Would this work? I'd need to use crossover cable in this circumstance, correct?

Yes, I could just try it, but I'd rather not spend the $$$ on a KVM if it can't do what I require. Now, about the ICS question...

the KVM question, yes you can do that, if you switch to the second PC, the 1st pc will be fine, it will be the same as if you had just turned off the second monitor (if using spanned desktop it would be unaccesable until you switched back or changed out of spanned desktop mode).

explain the second question better, I dont know what njit is.

if you want to share conection you need one of the folloing 2 things.

1. get a router(best)/switch/hub (pick 1), and have a NIC in each comp, straight (patch) cables conect everything

2. get a second NIC in your main PC, and single n the second, connect PC's with crossover

1 is best option, allows for expansion, and router is "smart", handles bandwidth better
2 is cheap option, main PC has to be online for 2nd to use, and wont manage bandwidth well at all.(ok for web surfing)
