Greetings everyone. I hope this is the right place for tihs post. I think I made a mistake posting in the network folder. :(

Well, im in the markget for a KVM switch.
This is what I need:

A 4 port KVM switch. Video, PS/2 mouse, PS/2 Keyboard.

Nothing fancy, but relatively nice.

Anyone have recommendations on a brand? Linksys? Belkin? D-Link? IonGear?

Also, anyone know of a good retailer that has good prices for these types of KVM switches?

Basically, im going to be hooking up 2 Linux boxes, 1 *nix box and 1 Win2k box.

Thanks for everyones input. I look forward to your replies.

Here is a good place to get them:

KVM Swiches

I never really payed much attention to the brand, but i am pretty sure we used one of Belkins 4-port KVM Switches ... they are slick!

I know we sell them for about $175 at work, but i can't recall exactly which one it was ....

The Belkin Omni-View seems to be the "Cadillac" of KVM's .......

My D-Link 2-Port is working great ...... but does not have USB & Audio capability ........

Good KVM review at : TomsHardware

I'm happy with the "KV" part of my Belkin Omnicube, but the "M" part has always been unreliable (tried several mice), I've heard the same from other owners. Buy.com is a good place to buy since they also carry many brands/styles of the cable sets (which many KVMs do not include).

I got a two port belkin omni view for $40 right here in the for sale/trade section. I recommend the belkin. I Know some people have trouble with the mouse ports, but on the omni view i didn't have any trouble getting the wheel to work. I just made sure the switch was on the current computer when booting so it would recognize the mouse correctly.

also if you go retail the wires do not come with the unit, I recomend going to yahoo shopping. I got two sets of belkin brand wiring for $8 each.

Good Luck

No matter what KVM you end up getting, you should keep in mind that the cables you get with it are also very important to your quality and your price range.

Okay, finally a post that I can help someone out with. :)

I got my KVM from Newegg, its only a 2port, but the original recommendation came from someone with the 4 port Linskey, at this URL: Linskey 4port Look at the first 2 listings.

I have had nothing but success, the switch works great, cables are high quality, and the ports can be switched via keyboard shortcuts (scrolllock) that wont affect your everyday use of your keyboard. Plus it wont set you back a ton.

Check it out.

if all u need is a vanilla KVM (no bells and whistles like usb & sound)... then i would recommend dlink. it's quite affordable when compared to the other mfr model prices, and i am quite happy with mine :D
