Just hooked up a kvm switch for a friend and the old computer will not let the ps2 mouse . The old computer is a serial mouse unit. Bought an adapter serial to ps2. Put it in the serial port and attached the new ps2 mouse. Will not recognize the mouse? However, everything is working fine with the new computer. Anyone have this problem?
Thanks:confused:

I believe the problem is that with older computers serial devices needed to be connected at bootup, they were not hot-pluggable. Try turning on the computer with the KVM set to the older computer, see if that helps. The computer may think your mouse is disconnected after you switch back, or it may work okay. Of course, I could be way off base too and the computer will not work with a KVM and serial mouse. If the older computer has a free PCI slot, maybe a PCI USB card would do the trick? I can't say for sure about that.

Good luck.

Ive even had that problem with PS2 KVM, especially the older manual switch type. Even with my fully auto switch some motherboards just dont cooperate, even late model modern PS2 Mobo. Ive gone as far as putting mouses on each machine and just using it for a monitor switch. Ive had the best luck with my Belkin Omnicube with a Logitech Optical mouse using the green PS2 adaptor for some crazy reason.

I've had poor luck using ps2/serial adapters for mice. Some mice were labelled as dual use, but most are not. Then trying to use it with a KVM is tougher yet.
