I'm all for public hangings. We should bring them back.

Tired of our pussied out progressive society that has to take everyone's feeling into account. This country keeps falling into the shithole it has dug for itself.

Actually, the most likely result from a resumption of public executions is the abolition of capital punishment altogether. It turns out that when people see executions they don't suddenly stop committing crimes, they just start hating executions.

Since I'm already for banning capital punishment I completely agree. We've waited far too long to throw that barbaric practice on the shitheap of history as it is.

Nobody said anything about throwing a party.

I suggested the public could do fundraisers to help the state execute more people.

Honest question for you. Hw many innocent people are you ok with being executed under the current system? What ratio? 1 in 100, 1,000, 10,000?

See I already know what they answer is to this and it's appalling how many people have been exonerated in the last 30 years AFTER being executed.

Now, under and expedited execution system, how many more innocents do you think will be killed and what ratio are you ok with?

Conservatives don't trust government on healthcare, schools, or much of anything else but when it comes to killing other citizens it's HANG 'EM HIGH, GO GOVERNMENT!!!!

Not true and you know it.

Give the accused a fair trial, and then execute them.

I think we should have fundraisers outside Huntsville prison to buy rope and build gallows. I would even pull my pit over there and help cook. Maybe sale a pulled pork sandwich, chips and a drink for $5.

Killing always is best with a nice coke!
Pulled pork may be a bit heavy for a night of snapped necks and suffocation. I'd go with finger foods maybe a sampler platter.

Whatever you do don't serve tongue!

Yeah I've never understood that. Government can't do anything right at all, but you entrust the Government with the power to kill it's own citizens?

Though now that that can happen without due process, it's not really a valid argument since everyone on both sides of the aisle seems to be in favor of the government killing it's own citizens.

Honest question deserves honest answer.

I am not ok with a single innocent person being out to death.

But then again, no legal system is perfect.

When they used to do public executions, it was before television. People used to show up in the town square to watch it.

I have my doubts that people will turn against it if it's shown publicly. An unstated reason it used to be done publicly is because a lot of people liked it. Retribution. We get to exercise our instinct for death and destruction by proxy, and feel Morally Exalted as a bonus. This reminds me of the people who are very upset that they passed a law to disallow the public viewing of dead children at Sandy Hook. Remember, the public has a Moral Right to see pictures of dead children.

I too want to get rid of the death penalty for many reasons. The mere fact that there are people who want to bring back public execution so they can get off on it is yet another reason.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_exonerated_death_row_inmates#United_States

According to CNN there was 9722 death sentences handed down in the United States from 1970-2009. Quick count if the list wove shows 137 people sentenced to death who were exonerated. For some it was too late. for the rest they are still alive due to the lengthy appeals process.

So about 1 in 70 people conviceted to die in a court of law never should have been. That's horribly flawed system already and you want to speed things up?

You molest kids, What else is there to know?

You have the option of having your fate decided by a jury of your peers, it's just the people want the Government to carry out the punishment.
