This is a very specific allegation. It was made by Elizabeth Spiers, the former editor of The New York Observer, which was bought by Jared Kushner in 2006. As such, she had innumerable conversations with Prince Jared.

In response to a Trump defender who called her a kook and a loser for stating that Donald Trump is a liar / water is wet, Spiers tweeted that when she told Kushner she was appalled at Trump's birtherism, he replied,
"He doesn't really believe it, Elizabeth. He just knows Republicans are stupid and they'll buy it."

The allegation that he'd use and abuse Republicans just to gain position is confused by his actual placement of Republicans in his administration, his consistent use of their favorite dog whistles, and his attempt(s) to ram through their policy. This article would suggest there's a promised division but all I see is marriage. It does speak towards having terrible character but everyone already knew that.

Another chip off his armor... but he's a naked emperor.

Would you say about the character of people who reliably identify with those possessing terrible character.

Yeah, if only we could have found the funds to outfit all of our second generation would be real estate moguls with bodycams, we'd have irrefutable proof etched in silicon. :(

Are you suggesting that the court of public opinion is so biases or hearsay driven people can't figure out on their own that Trump is a titanic liar? Have you been living under a rock? Have you missed the massive number of examples of his lying? The idea that smoke can exist without fire generally is inapplicable when you're engulfed in a billowing inferno. You might want to test whether you're producing enough watts to register on an EEG.

I'd say they are lost and confused.

Tribalism as polarized as ours has no regard for such details. Identity devolves down to protecting "yours" and clubbing "others". Many people invested in Trump would not recognize his character and/or ignore it in favor of some commonality. Your hatred wants us to treat them all the same but many people find themselves on that side of the fence for various reasons. And your "with us or against us" Bush'ism would only further drive people away from reason and into supporting Trump, et al.

You call people degenerates and they will respond negatively. Their commonality shifts towards simply hating you in return.

Seems you agree they loved trump because of said commonality. There are arguably some who don't share enough commonality to express love, but still pretty evident which side they'd take if it came down to it.

Well, he's not wrong.
Republicans are stupid.
They've bought everything.
Trump is winning.

In all fairness buying what you've always wanted doesn't really imply stupidity.

of course he was going to put Republican's in his administration, he needs the Republican's votes and they are the side of the political aisle that wants to destroy the federal government.

of course he uses their dog whistles, that is the point of this thread.

he clearly isn't attempting to ram through Republican policies or he would have actually gotten some legislation achieved.

404, confusion not found.

Donald Trump doesn't stand for anything, until it benefits him personally or is a marketing win.

At this point in time I would like to personally apologize to every person who sells used cars and/or snake oil as I have frequently compared them with Trump and his chronic habit of lying. Trump has proven to me that I was actually insulting those folks by the comparison and I now have to find a new cubbyhole to stuff Trump in.

There is no comparing Trump with anyone else. He is in a class all his own.

As a result, I feel compelled to send letters of condolence to his children and his wife.

May they somehow find peace and happiness while having to exist in his shadow.

I think its pretty clear that this is likely a true conversation given how many policies/ideas/positions trump has 100% reversed on within days of being in power.

He shouted from the rooftops one thing when he was campaigning but when given the moment of truth arrives and his true beliefs are revealed he actually stands for the complete opposite position.

I'm more shocked that someone in the Trump administration finally said something true.

Mind-blowing paradox. The Whitehouse motto is "this statement is a lie"

whoops as in Trump lied again?

The way he took credit for "solving" the issue was some of his most masterful dissembling. He never "did" anything other than stir the shit with a canoe paddle.

What should we call people who believe Obama is a secret Muslim born in Kenya?

Honestly, I'm getting tired of being told to respect people who don't deserve it. I've been hearing this a lot since the election, especially from fellow liberals.

I get that Agent is over the top. I don't like his approach, but I'm honestly frustrated over how to deal with people who cannot be reasoned with.

I honestly don't know why conservatives would assume Spieirs was lying here. She's paying Trump a compliment, suggesting that he isn't stupid enough to believe such nonsense.

Now, I'm not so sure that I believe it myself. The reason is because Trump seems to believe in lots of loony conspiracy theories. I have no idea why birthirism would be an exception.

This is one of those things that puzzles me when trying to take it all in.. Trumps children and grandchildren will forever be "The Trumps", they will live with the shame and the hate for the rest of their lives, long after the D himself are gone. I suspect they will never be safe again. He gives crap about his own offspring?
