I finally saw Shaolin Soccer this past weekend and loved it. Tempted to get this as the English cut of Shaolin Soccer wasn't as funny as the original version.

Yup, went to SF Chinatown and got the DVD for $10. I thought it was pretty funny too, although less humor than his usual movies, because there's more kung fu. Think I'll watch it again tonight.
 
One of his best filmed movies, if not the best. It's not as funny as some of his others, but the cinematography on this one is head and shoulders above even Shaolin Soccer, which I didn't think was that good. The humor is weird sometimes if you're not used to his brand of it, but still it's great.
 
It says that this is DVD3 though which is the region code for South East Asia. Will this play in a standard US DVD player? I have an XBOX, PS2, PC, or an RCA Divx DVD player I bought about 6 years ago that I could use to potentially play this.

If it's region 3, it won't work unless your dvd player is hackable or region 3. But given that it's an RCA, odds are it won't work.

You can mod your Xbox or just change the region on your PC Dvd rom to get it to play.

average at best 🙁 this movie was hyped beyond everything but shaolin soccer is by far the better movie. It's more of an action film than his usual comedy.

i also think shaolin soccer was better. of course, it's just an opinion and probably dependent on the type of humour you enjoy. still, this movie was pretty cool, and the kung fu is pretty awesome and funny. if you watch with a bunch of guys, it will be much more exciting than by yourself. (but that of course goes for most comedies). if you understand cantonese, it is funnier.

I'm from Hong Kong, i saw it when it was first released..

and yes.. cantonese is quite key in understanding the funny parts
without cantonese, it's still a good action flick though..

shaolin soccer is not really a comedy in my opinion.. if you want the really really funny ones.. it has to be the classic ones back in the 90s...

C'mon....what's not comedic about a really fat guy being able to jump 50 ft in the air and another guy having glass bottles broken over his head? 😀
 
Kung Fu Hustle was much better than Shaolin Soccer imo, saw it the other day and thought it was one of his best films. Although a little less comedy than usual the parts that were funny were lol hilarious 🙂
 
found an "All Region" version in NYC chinatown for $10 🙂

tho stephen chow didn't have as big a role in this movie as shaolin soccer, it was still a pretty good movie, totally enjoyed it 😀

Cantonese, the Manadrin translation isn't as funny as well.
