I have downloaded the latest BIOS and "Hot Rod 100" programs for the KT7A-RAID, I also have awdflash utility. Now, I am all set to upgrade my BIOS. Can someone let me know if there are any lethal pitfalls I should be aware of. Also, do I actually need the awdflash utility, or can I just boot to the A: prompt and double click on the BIOS (KT7S3N.exe).
Finally, should I upgrade the HPT370 raid bios first (to version 1.11.0402), and if so, how?
Thanks,
(btw: OS is Win ME + W2K, dual boot system).
Giles..

You do need the Award flash utility.

The BIOS also has the latest Highpoint BIOS embedded, so you're also flashing the HPT.

Important #1: if you're using RAID (that is, actually using the controller for RAID) you should make a backup of anything important on your drive before flashing to another HPT bios - there's a slight chance your array will get corrupted. That said, I've done it several times without problems.

Important #2: The KT7S3N bios is only for board version 1.3 or later. Check that!

Important(?) #3: The executive file you have there - isn't that just supposed to be clicked in Windows, to extract the contents? The bios itself is a *.bin file, which is usually flashed via a runme.bat that starts the awdflash.exe utility with the supplied bios.bin as input.

Important(?) #4: If the computer doesn't start after flashing, clear the CMOS with the onboard jumper.

Here's a great site: Paul's KT7 faq. Check the BIOS section!
