Kt7a raid beep codes needed

I just replaced the north bridge heatsink on a pc w/ a kt7a raid mobo w/ one from zalman, but now that I plugged it all back in I get get a beep code and shut down.

The code is just 4 long beeps and then it shuts down. I'm 110% sure everything is plugged in where it was working just fine. It did exhibit similar problems on monday when the owner just made sure all the cables were in properly and it was fine. So this sounds like the same problem, but no amount of cable jiggling is working.

I tried downloading the mobo manual off abit's site but it's a dead link. thnx for any help.
ps. I never touched the ram or cpu. I tried to boot without any drives or cards but got the same error. Maybe because a small amount of epoxy got on the board? but I did clean it w/ iso alcahol and didn't even try to boot the pc till about 30 mins later.
 
Abit uses the Award BIOS. I can understand how you can't find it yourself, there are only 4 BILLION pages on the Net available through Google that explain the beep codes.

Pretty much everything that beeps in Award means a memory error or a video error. For some reason Award doesn't provide beep codes for anything else, it assumes any other error can be written as a message during POST.

The epoxy shouldn't cause any problems, it shouldn't be electrically conductive or anything. Try swapping the memory or trying with each memory module if they have more than one.
 
I wasn't aware that it was award or not, didn't get that far. I'll try the memory I guess but I can't see how it could have been affected. thnx.
 
It may be the memory controller that's damaged, maybe too much pressure or another trauma to the northbridge during the switch out.
 
It's definitly not the memory chips themselves, I have 3 sticks in there, 2 infinion and 1 cruicial. Tried one at a time and same error. Maybe something happened during switching it, bah.
 
It actually sounds like you might of plugged the cpu fan onto the the wrong header as you reassembled. I believe my KT7A use to do 4 beeps then shutdown for the fan warning.

P.S. Arctic Silver's epoxy (with silver) does cause problems if it across two contacts. (Its not conductive, but is capacitive - meaning it will allow signals to jump to another contact).

It's not the fan, and it's not arctic silver epoxy. It's a 2 step compound from zalman (red and greed tubes) you combine and it hardens rock solid. I used the stuff on my zalman video card heatsink too.

I'm thinking the north bridge got damaged somehow although I never did anything which would be questionable as to doing damage. still stumped, I'll probably just replace it.
 
Maybe it monitors the fan speed for the northbridge? If there is no signal, perhaps it would auto shut down. See if there is a feature to disable this in the BIOS.

Four beeps then machine shuts down. This is because this version of the BIOS will shut down your machine if no fan tachometer signal is detected on the fan header. Make sure you attach a fan to the FAN1 or FAN4 header or clear CMOS to reset to default (no checking).

hm I looked up award bios codes and it said 4 beeps is a memory problem (memory controller on N bridge?) I'll try yet another fan and another reset I guess.
 
Its easy to plug the fan into the wrong header on the KT7A. Its the one closest to memory, not the one closest to the processor.
 
Just disable the fan warning in the BIOS. Low speed fans always cause the computer to shut down. Of course you will have to plug in a regular higher speed fan to get into the Bios, plug one of your case fans into the fan header 1. Don't forget to plug the CPU HSF into another fan header or you will have toast. Once the warning in the BIOS has been turned off you can plug the low speed fan into the fan header 1.
