KT7/WD 7200rpm drive = registry errors/win98 install blowing up

I've been unable to install win98 without registry errors. It's not the RAM (swapped in a different stick), not the video card-ASUS GFORCE2 MX (tried it out in my own machine, swapped in two others), and it's not the HD (swapped it into my machine -[300A oc'd 450] and ran the win98 install w/out problems).

It's looking like a problem with the MB. I flashed the BIOS to the most recent version (ww) and still getting errors. In fact, I don't even get the whole way through the Win98SE install before errors start logging (regsvr32, kernel32)...before I even login for the first time.

ABIT KT7
Duron 650 (at 650)
128MB PC133
Western Digital 7200rpm 20GB ATA100
Enlight case w/250w ps
ASUS GFORCE2 MX

Any ideas?

Have you disabled the ATA 100 functionality? The standard IDE interface only supports UDMA66. Only the RAID controllers will operate @ ATA 100. I had problems installing the same HD (30G version) in my KT7RAID until I realized that I needed to disable the ATA100 in order to work properly on the board's standard IDE port. Hope this helps!

yes...In fact, I used WD's software to set the drive to "up to" ATA66.
The boot screen shows the drive correctly as ATA66...I even tried ATA33,
but was getting the same blow-ups. The drive worked fine on my other system,
a Celery 300A @ 450. Installed win98se just fine.
