Has anyone with this setup experienced problems? I went to buy a 1.1ghz TB today for my Abit KT7 and the guy at the store told me not to buy it.

He said they have had about 7 or 8 people in the past week that have had problems getting this setup to work and that Abit is looking into the problem. He said the other mobos were ok, only the Abit boards were having problems.

I was all set to plunk down the $$$ but walked out with nothing. I probably should have gotten it anyways cause that would give me an excuse to buy a MSI K7T Pro2A if the TB didn't work with my KT7.

Im running a KT7-RAID and a Tbird 900@1100(10*110)-no problems at all. Granted my cpu is not a true 1.1gig, but I have not heard anyone else with this problem-and I scan the forum regularly at AMDZone.

The problem appear to be w/ the true 1.1ghz chip and not one overclocked to 1.1ghz. He said the 1ghz chips work fine, it's just the 1.1 that is giving problems.

I may end up buying one anyways. I'm one of those that thinks my computer is "golden" and that anything will work in there. Then when it doesn't work, I'll get pissed off and go buy a new mobo LOL.

I can honestly say I have never heard of that problem before. Check out Unoffical Abit KT7 FAQ. They also have a forum too so ask there as well. My guess is the guy doesn't know what he is talking about or he is incorrectly attributing the problems to that particular processor.

X14,

I would say that you have a good supplier. He easily could have taken your money. Have you checked AMD's site recently to see what speeds are supported. They list the KT7 with rev 1.01, its printed by the ISA slot on the board.

I would not be too quick to believe something a computer store salesman tells you. Many times they are NOT very reliable with there information (gross generalizations based on their personal opinions). Plus, many times inexperience computer builders try to put the own system together and really should NOT be doing it! When their system does NOT work, then they blame the motherboard.

Unfortunately, I have been one of those guys (I hate to admit it!). I remember the first motherboard I tried to upgrade. I thought I knew what I was doing, but didn't. I returned the motherboard as "defective", but I bet money there was NOTHING wrong with it, just my lack of experience.

I personally really like ABIT. I had a Abit BX6 revision 2 motherboard for a couple of years. First it ran my P3 450 @ 558MHz, then my P3 650 @ 807MHz. I never had any problems with it (that a flash did not fix).

DaddyG, you're right on that account. They could easily have sold me the 1.1ghz TB without a saying anything. The store has a "no refund" policy as well, they only accept exchanges or will issue store credit.

When I told them I wanted the TB1.1, they asked for what motherboard, I said Socket A, the guy said...no, what brand motherboard, and that's when I said the Abit KT7.

Could it be that the only nitwits that can't plop in a TB1.1 correctly only live in my town? I must admit that I've checked many message boards and have not seen a peep about this problem but the fact that he said they had 7 or 8 guys having problems in the last couple of days made me think twice.

He could easily have tried to push the 1ghz on me but didn't. He said if you want the 1.1, he'd wait till or that I could take my chances if I wanted. I chose to wait yestereday, but I may change my mind and take my chances today :) After all, I do need to buy myself something for Christmas...and I would't mind buying a MSI K7T Pro2A if 1.1TB didn't work with my KT7.

Renob, is this a native 1.1ghz chip you used or a system o/c to 1.1ghz?
