KT7 USB problem

I have a KT7 with tbird 1 GHz running windows ME.

My USB ports will not work. Can't even see the root hub in device controller unless I boot in safe mode. It shows two pci to USB controllers (beacuse I have 4 ports, yes?) with question marks by them. I have updated all latest (including beta) via and Abit drivers/bios to include USB drivers. I made sure no card was in pci slot 5. Still, no root hub and the pci controllers share IRQ's (11) with the ethernet card (?????)

Help! I dont want to buy a new controller
 
i' having a similar problem, i went ahead and got a USB card for now,... free bump to see if anyone has solutions = )

Give it a try and see if it does any good. Do you have the extra 2 port USB connector that comes with the KT7 plugged into your board? I never have tried them yet on the ones I built. I personally do not have any trouble with the 2 USB ports on the back of my KT7, and have a powered 4 port(2 USB, 1 Serial, 1 Printer port) hub on one port with a scanner, printer, and digital camera on it, and a modem on the 2nd port. I hope you get yours working.
 
well, i hqave even disconnected the extra two ports, and pulled all cards except the VGA with no help. It seems SO strange that in Safe mode the computer recognizes there is a root hub but in normal mode it does not. What is diff about these modes?????????

I think I may try loading Windows 2000 (as there are so few drivers for ME) to see if it changes this mess but I have little hope.
