kt7 turbo2 start up problems

I built my first system with these components:
kt7 turbo2 mobo
AMD tbird 1.1ghz/200 processor
seagate 40g hd
teac 1.44mb floppy
enlight mid 300w case w/ extra fan
plextor cdrw 12x10x32
sony cd
Geforce gf2 MX200 32M sdr gainward

The problem that I am having with it are:

1.The system doesn't always boot on powerup.It boots fine when
i reset the computer,not when I manually power on.

I checked the power supply and believe that to be fine. I have to keep
flicking the switch on my surge protector to get it to go into boot
sequence, and yes it does this when I am not using the surge protector.

I am also running a 4 port kvm switch attached to a hitachi 19 monitor.




I have reinstalled the 4 in drivers and physically put in a new bios chip sent to me from msi. The original one had issues letting me access the bois.

any input someone could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If this were an ECS K7S5A I'd say for sure that it was the Power Supply. The symptoms match perfectly with what happens with that MB and a PS that just doesn't seem to have enough uumph. I have not seen this with the K7T though. Permit me a couple of clarifications. If the computer is off and cold, when you press the power switch, what happens? Nothing? When this problem happens are you saying you can get it to boot by turning off the power strip and then quickly turning it back on? And/or can you get it out of this state of "nothing happening" by pressing the reset button? Do I understand that correctly?

Reset has nothing to do with it a this point.----------------------------------------


When I mean nothing, it just sits there and nothing happens. Black screen. After a few flickings of the switch , I hear the proverbial " beep " and it goes into the boot up sequence. It could be the power supply but a few months ago I cooresponded with a rep from enlight and he told to try a few things ( dammned if can remember now, sorry ) and what he told me to try, all worked out. It still coould be that though.

A few more things to thinkk about that I noticed yesterday. On my kvm switch, there is a little power supply adapter that you can plug un if something like a laptop doesn't have the umpth to run it. So I plugged it in , kept the monitor off, and started up the computer 6 or 7 times on the first try! I also have a microsoft internet keyboard (intellipro) hooked to the kvm. Could this have something to do with my problem? It sure seems like a huge coincidence. The kvm is a linsky's.

Yeah, I'd say you are either looking at the KVM or the PS as the trouble. Quite possibly the KVM. Try starting/using the system without that; just as a test. If I was going to Vegas, I'd bet all would be OK if you do. If so, what would be the solution, you might ask? Either eliminate the use of the KVM (you probably won't want to) or..............get a bigger, better Power Supply so that it can overcome the KVM. Sorry I can't offer a better "fix".
