KT7-RAID USB Problems...Please Help!

I am having problems with my USB on the ABit KT7-RAID. Every time I go to use a USB device through my Linksys 4-port hub OR directly through the motherboard, the USB function dies on me. I have a HP 950C, Creative WebCamIII, Handspring Visor and Nomad 2 that all are equally experiencing the same problems. Any suggestions?
 
I've noticed that the chipset seems to have a problem with IRQ sharing. Find out if you have a PCI card sharing the same IRQ as teh USB, if so, move teh card to a different slot
 
Well, I am still struggling with this. Does anyone have any alternate suggestions for the order of my internal cards?

AGP - ATI All-in-Wonder 128 Pro 32MB
PCI1 - Linksys FastEther 10/100
PCI2 - Adaptec SCSI card for Epson 1200S Scanner
PCI3 - Creative Live! Value
PCI4 - 3Com 56K Winmodem
PCI5 - Unused
PCI6 - Unused
ISA - Unused

It's like, the USB detects fine and all, but when I go to use the peripheral it dies within seconds.
 
Try moving your modem to slot #5 and see if that cures it. Actually, I'm having USB problems myself. I can't get my Umax scanner or my printer working correctly. The reason to try moving your modem is as follows:

PCI Slot 1 shares an IRQ with AGP slot
PCI Slot 2 & 3 share IRQ with ACPI
PCI Slot 4 & 6 share IRQ with USB
PCI Slot 5 shares an IRQ with Highpoint controller

So if it is a problem with USB sharing IRQs, that should elminate the problem. Otherwise it's something else. Let me know if it fixes it or not.
 
Last night I moved my sound card to PCI5 and my modem to PCI3. Seemed a little better, but again, my USB shut down after 30 minutes or so. I'll try the modem in PCI5 tonight.

I am almost tempted to buy a USB adapter card, disable the onboard USB, and plug the USB adapter into PCI 4 then. Think it would help? I have just heard too many complaints about the USB on this mobo.

I'm starting to think the same thing. But since I never had any problems with my old MVP3 system I figured my components would transfer over without a hiccup. Figures.
 
I also used to have a K6-III 450 on a Soyo 5EMA+ v1.0. Never had a problem there too. When I got the Athlon 600 and Biostar M7MKA combo, a few problems using a D-Link USB hub, but after I got the Linksys USB hub, no problems at all.

Now with the T-Bird 800 adn KT&-RAID, I get USB problems if I go through the hub or directly to the motherboard.

I have a USB scanner and force feedback that work just fine. I did go to Via's site and got the latest USB drivers. Before that I had trouble, but after installing them, its been fine!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I have a usb keyboard and mouse and both of them die on me. I also have a usb printer but I haven't really tried it. These are the specs of my system:

KT7 Raid
overclocked duron 600 to 850
2 maxtor 46 gig hard drive using raid 0
AGP Elsa gladiac geforce 2 video card IRQ #5
PCI slot #
1. netgear fa312 network card IRQ #5
2. ati tv wonder IRQ #7
3. sb live IRQ #7
4. adaptec scsi card IRQ #11
slot 5 and 6 are empty as well as the ISA slot
It would be great if anyone can come up with some help for this problem. It's really annoying!
 
This may seem like an odd question....but what bios are you running with? I personally don't have any USB problems but have seen this before with this board. It's not an IRQ sharing problem, make sure P&P is disabled and check your Via drivers....begining to think it's either bios or Via related!
 
I'm using the latest UL bios but I have plug and play enable. I'll have to try disabling plug and play when I get home from work. Wish me luck with this.

Why don't my USB devices work?
There is a known bug in the Universal Host Controller driver (Uhcd.sys) shipped with Windows 98SE that causes problems with the VIA chipset. Microsoft have a patch for this available at their support site under Q240075. In summary do the following:

enable an IRQ for USB in the BIOS
install VIA's USB Filter Driver
install Microsoft's VIA USB patch
Try ticking "disable USB error detection" in Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus controllers, PCI to USB Universal Host Controller.
Other issues reported include:

One user with an ABIT KA7 motherboard found that his USB solutions were due to using a 3Com 3c905TX PCI network card. On using a different NIC (in the same slot) the problem was solved. The D-Link DFE-530TX PCI and the 3Com 3c509B ISA network cards did not cause USB problems. Let me know if this problem occurs on your KT7!
One user found USB instabilities were due to SB16 emulation being enabled on his MX300 soundcard
One user reported problems with an HP USB Scanjet scanner failing to work. Even replacing with another HP Scanjet had the same difficulties, but on replacing it with another brand his problems were resolved

I have no luck with usb peripherals. UL Bios, Windows ME, tried the 4 in 1 drivers from via then the usb filter 108. I have this config w/ pci slots:
  1. Linksys Ethernet
  2. none
  3. ATI TV Wonder
  4. none
  5. SB Live
  6. none

Edit: disabled plug and play and is enabled right now, Windows SE patch wouldn't work, system bios cache is off, usb irq enabled, acpi is using irq 9 along w/ the 2 usb, tried disabling acpi.
