Hi,

I recently purchased a few parts from my uncles store, i asked for a Abit KT7 but he gave me a Abit KT7 W/ RAID. I don't have like 4 hard drives in my computer, just 1. It's a 20 gig so i dont plan on upgrading it for a while, if i do run out of space, thatll be in a pretty long time and by then ill have to buy a new mobo to support the new cpu's out there. I don't have a cd-rom and need to get my hands on one, i can save $30 by getting KT7 w/o RAID and getting a cd-rom or keep the KT7 w/ RAID. The EIDE drives that will be in there are:

- Quantum 7200 RPM 20 GIG
- 40x CD-ROM (get maybe in 2 months if i keep RAID)

What do you suggest i do, keep the RAID? Or switch it for a KT7 and get a cd-rom right now or wait 2 months for cd-rom?

- Shezan

RAID is definitely a cool feature, but if you dont plan on using it, then it doesn't make too much sense to have it. You mind as well go for the KT7 and get a cdrom drive. Just one note: the KT7 without raid does not support ATA-100, only ATA33/66. This shouldn't be a problem because your Quantum drive is ATA66.

Well, I think that if price isn't your main object, the RAID option is a good one for the future. Just think about adding a CD burner, second HDD, or other device on SEPARATE channels, and this option does make sense.
