Ok, so this the basic setup:

T-Bird 1000
Abit KT7-R
Bios: KT73R release: 07/13/2001 (load safe default settings)
HPT 370 RAID BIOS version 1.11.0402
OS: Win2K / NTFS
HD: (2) Maxtor Dimond max 40gb configed in a RAID-0
Netgear NIC card
Elsa TNT2 card

I had some problems with an earlier version of the HPT bios and was getting errors from time to time. Basically, I would get write and read errors under fat 32 and it would freeze my system. After rebooting, scandisk would come in and correct a few files here and there. So I tought it best to back up my data on a third drive for the time being and reflash the bios so that I could hopefully get a more stable version. However, this was clearly not the case. I've had to reinstall win2k several times, each time not getting the backup to load properly and eventually, I lost my boot sector for my backup drive when I reinstalled win2k for the Nth time and forgot to unplug the backup drive, because win2k wasn't looking at my RAID first. So, now, I've lost all my data and and I'm getting write errors when I install some of the old software on to the raid. Then when I try and run scandisk on boot up it goes all the way to the fifth NTFS test where it checks my free space. About 80% done, it gives me the blue screen and a stop error. The file that it brings up is NV4.sys or something like that. Then I grabed a trial of Norton 2001 and I've tried to run disk doctor in the hopes of trying to get it to scan my disk, however, it says that it needs my HD on start up because it can't get exclusive use of the drive. Hence, I can't scan it, unless its at OS boot up. --Which brings me back to the blue screen.

Any suggestions? should I fdisk the twins and hope for a better second round? Then back to NTFS or FAT 32? or perhaps give IDE another chance? or drop my system off my 3rd story balcony. I'm hoping for better options, however, I'm not too pleased with the corner that i've painted myself into

Thanks for any suggestions you might have
