I just purchased a KT7 Raid but my hard drive is only a ata 66. Can I connect it to the HPT controller and get better performance or do I have to connect it to the regular 66 controller? I do plan to get a ata100 HD in the future but for now, can I utilize the HPT controller with this harddrive?

Actually, you should connect it to the hp controller. I believe the onboard ide is only udma 33, i moved over to the the hp controller and gained 50% perf increase in sandra, but if you look over in tech support you'll see my thread for an underperforming hard drive, the 50% is a start, but i still have issues

Techwhore: The onboard controller is ATA66. It is the native IDE controller for the VIA KT133 chipset which is ATA66 regardless.

MagnumCWN: It's not a waste at all. Go for it.

You're right. The on board is ATA33.

I just found out while we were away.

Leave it to the dumb asses at Abit (and I do mean dumb asses since the company allows a 12% RMA rate due to piss poor quality control) to completely disable the native ATA66 capabilities of the VIA KT133 chipset.

Sigh.
