I recently upgraded my system to XP from 98. I found much to my dismay that the driver for my hauppauge wintv usb was just terrible and caused several problems. I sold it to someone at work who has no problems with it and loves it and I bought a wintv go from his friend. I put the card in and it seems to work well with the exception I now have random lock ups when checking the hardware and the system will not completely shutdown anymore. My usb devices aren't always found correctly and I'm getting annoyed. I also noticed when I first log on that my opening sound can be a little choppy. I repaired XP last night and that did not improve things (didn't make it worse either) and it was a fresh install on a new hard drive. I think I discovered the problem this morning on the ride into work and I believe it is a hardware interupt conflict. I had installed the wintv card into slot 4 (which according to the manual, shares at interupt with the usb.) Now given the cards that I have for this system, what would be the best order for these cards?

system specs:
650 duron
256 meg ram
ATI Radeon 32DDR AGP
Diamond winmodem (slot 2) [that is hardly used]
Linksys 10/100 NIC (slot 3)
Hauppauge wintv go (slot 4)
Hercules Fortissimo II (slot 5)

Since its your USB and the TV card causing the interrupt problem, why not switch your TV card with your modem (since you say its hardly used). If it is truly an IRQ problem, then that will resolve all the problems. If that fails, remove everything from your slot 4, and test again. Keep us up to date on whats happening and good luck.

That was my thinking. I was just hoping someone had already fixed something similar to this.

I really hope this fixes the problem since I really don't feel like stripping the computer down and formatting and reinstalling and add things one at a time.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I pulled the tv card and also the webcam and things are pretty much back to normal. I'll have to play with the tv card in different slots. I found an article on usbman discussing webcams and via chipsets and it appears that there is a incompatability.
