kt7 and Duron Morgan (again)

I have an Abit KT7 (rev 1.0 I think) with newest bios, and I thought it would support the Morgan core Duron 1.3, however it refuses to post on either of my boards. Dead.

All the forums and FAQ's I've read haven't given me a definitive answer about the compatibility of this processor with the KT7. I would like to know for sure before I request an RMA for a dead processor, and have to pay a restock fee or something and have the same thing happen again.

Thanks,

Mark

It seems to be a blind shot with these boards, some seem to work, while others don't, and ABIT doesn't officially support that matchup to the MoBo
but they may have mixed in some newer stuff on the production line in the transition out of the 1.0 Rev to the next level.
Some have said a BIOS update does the trick, but once again its a blind shot. You might try to find a refurb of a KR7, usually $ 50 or so, but you need
DDR if you go that route.

Have you reset the CMOS and try to reboot? Also what power supply are you running?

I unlocked a 1Ghz Duron and put it in my freinds KT7-raid and it will do 1.1Ghz fine, but the power supply is to weak to go higher. So if the reset does not do it, then go into the Bios and lower the chip setting to 11 (1.1Ghz) and see if it will let you lower it?

I think it's the hit and miss compatability. I updated bios and cleared cmos. I'm running an older Tbird in one (900 oc'd to 1G) and an older duron in the other (700 oc'd to 850) and was just looking for a quick upgrade. My friend has a couple of kt7's and he's going to try the chip in those, and test it on his newer xp compatible Mb. Otherwise, I think I'll just have to eat the restock fee/return shipping.

Thanks for the info!

Last resort unlock it and set the Multiplier to 11 or 12. Anything under 12.5+ is more stable in the older boards. The board supports up to 1.4Ghz BUT the higgest setting is 12.5+. So try something under 12.5+.
