kt600 vs nForce 2

I'm looking on newegg for a new motherboard, and I see the Asus A7N8X deluxe costs $40 more than the Asus A7V600. Is that extra 40 bucks worth dual channel ddr? I figured I'd go with the kt600 powered A7V600, and use that extra cash to get a better CPU. Add to that the Gigabit Ethernet that the A7V600 has, which do you think is the better deal?

nForce2 if you plan on overclocking. Dual channel RAM does NOT make a significant speed difference. Some cons for the A7V600 are: VIA chipset, first board revision...expect problems. Also, its lacking in features compared to some of the nForce2 boards on the market (please don't lock yourself into ONLY buying Asus.) The nForce2 boards have hit their sweet spot, and you can expect rock solid reliability, even with nVidia's driver flakeyness.

Performance between the two boards probably wouldn't be large enough to notice....so pick the board that has the features you want.

The nforce2 has a slight perfomance edge over the VIA KT600,however the VIA KT600 boards are worth looking at if you want to save some cash and don`t need the nforce sound,the Soltek SL-KT600-R is worth looking at VIA KT600 wise,as for stability well I`ve not seen any bad reviews yet on stability so that shouldn`t be a problem.

you can get the A7N8X non-deluxe for cheaper, or better yet go get a soltek board or gigbyte board or something

I chose the Asus board because its cheaper than the Gigabyte one, and the Soltek one doesn't have 1Gbps Ethernet.

nForce 2. I don't think there is that great of a KT600 board on the market at the moment. Get an Abit NF7-S 2.0

Gigabit ethernet sounds all well and good, but I would not make a judgement on my motherboard based on if it had Gigabit ethernet. Unlerss you are hooking up to a network with gigabit infrastructure, you will get no real benefit. Your cable/DSL connection, doesn't even stress the limites of 10/100 ethernet. I'd look at other features first, and if GBE was available on top of everything else I wanted, that's nice. I would not look at GBE as a priority.

I returned my nforce2 board and bought a kt600. I've never had any problems with VIA.

The IDE performance, even without the ide driver, was quite dismal.

nForce2 has a PCI/AGP lock, which means that you can overclock your FSB to whatever you want, and still keep your PCI at 33MHz and your AGP at 66MHz without putting them out of spec

So it is true then that the KT600 doesn't have the lock? That sucks for a new board...

nForce2 is a great chipset. I havent been very impressed by the KT600 chipset in general. Too little too late. get the nforce.

I suppose a single-channel nForce2 board would be a good balance of cost with performance/reliabilty. Does anybody have any non-Ultra 400 boards that stand out from the pack?
