KT333 woes NEED HELP

hi, well I just built my first comp, all booted fine... Ok here are the specs:

Epox 8k3a MOBO (KT333 chipset)
Athlon XP 1800+
OCZ 256mb 2700 ram
Globalwin TAK68 fan
Visionek GeForce 3 ti200
IBM 40 gig HD
LG burner
generic 300 watt power supply

Ok. So I went to install Windows 2000, but dowards the end of it, hell started- memory dump errors. Retried and same thing.... So I decided to flash the BIOS which I did with the latest bios update, finally installed. I then installed via 4 in 1 drivers, the usb + sound drivers for the mobo... And then the system kept on crashing with the memory dump errors...

Tried installing XP, but same thing... Open a few apps and a dump error... also, games start up but before going into it they crash (got latest detonator drivers installed). however, wolfenstein install doesn't start up: demo32 error... (works on another comp).

Epox told me to install anotehr OS, and replace the momory... which I HIGHLY doubt is the problem since after flashin all works well.
Ok well here's my view on it:
-Most likely a confict with teh kt333 chip... have no clue on how to fix it.
-Is 300 watts too little for this setup maybe? also, cpu is at 54 at full load... but it crashes then cause that's when i have apps open.

Any suggestions would be GREAT, i'd be really grateful if someone helped me solve this problem....

first thing i would do is download memtest and run it, its a dos based prgram that will tell you if your memory subsystem is working correct... it takes awhile to run 🙂

also i would try to swap the powersupply if you have a spare one, by the way what are your voltages showing in bios? specifically the 3.3v and 5v rails?

After reading your post I would change the PSU,generic PSUs are hit or miss, and with your XP1800 + you should be using a good PSU like Antec,Enermax,Sparkle etc,go here for the AMD recommend PSU list . I would go with a Antec,Enermax ,Sparkle 350w, the extra wattage is always handy.

Your +5v seems fine, you tried bumping the voltage for the cpu in bios from your 1.74v to say 1.76v?
