I recently bought a new motherboard and processor for my main box and decided I would buy another case, combine it with all the various bits I had lying around and make another PC.
I removed the KT3 Ultra (with an Athlon XP 2100 processor) and replaced it with my new motherboard. Unfortunately now I cannot get the KT3 Ultra to boot, whereas it always worked perfectly before (I had installed it myself the last time as well).
When I had installed the KT3 Ultra in my new case and plugged in the various connections (such as the ATX power connector and the front panel connectors), I turned on the power and ... absolutely nothing happened.
I tried shorting the green and black wires on the PSU and its fan started fine. I removed the motherboard from the case and tried again - zilch. I tried plugging the PSU in and shorting the two soldered joints for the green and black wires, the fans on the processor and northbridge both started, but nothing else happened.
I have made about 10 PCs over the years and installed and replaced motherboards on several more occasions, but I have never had this before. It's probably worth pointing out that I have plenty of experience of assembling copmuters, but I am no hardware expert.
The motherboard always worked fine before, I didn't knock it when I removed it. I am always careful to earth myself while doing maintenance.
Now I am baffled - can anyone suggest what I can do next to try to resolve this problem?
