Insane 3d:
"Also, by that time, the 266 Athlons will be out and the 200 1.2ghz should be cheaper...we shall see.... "

I thought the athlons out were 266 already. I'm looking to build a system but want to wait so I can get the DDRAM. Are you telling me AMD is going to be releasing a new chip as well?

Please keep the jargon to a minimum as I don't understand a lot of it.

Yes, I am not clear on this point as well. If current T-birds will work in KT133a motherboards that run at 133 (266), why would you need a new CPU for the DDR boards, that also run at 133(266), but with DDR RAM? Doesn't the chipset control the data flow between the CPU and the RAM so a 1.0 T-Bird is a 1.0 T-Bird, whether you are running 10x100 (200) or 7x133 (266)?

They MAY be less expensive because the majority of Athlon users are not unlocking their multiplier and overclocking their CPU. Therefore, a 1.2GHz Athlon (12X) at 100/200MHz could cost less than it's counterpart rated for 133/266MHz (9X), though, as far as I can tell, the only difference would be the factory multiplier settings.

Craig

Look the only difference between 133mhz FSB Athlons & their older 100mhz FSB Athlon bretheren is their default multiplyer setting.

Now if you are going to arc the bridges with a pencil, to by pass the default multiplyer, it will mean there will be no difference at all.

So if 100fsb 1ghz T'bird is slightly cheaper than a 133fsb 1ghz T'bird, than you might as well just buy the cheaper one.

I'll wait to see the verdict on that one... Since there aren't any 133Mhz boards out yet, I'll wait and see if this works properly for others first. I'm not going to be the first one on the block with this motherboard/CPU combo... So, as of now, its still speculation if this will work.
