KT133 vs KT133A

I'm looking for a difference in performance? Should I hold out until I can GET a KT133A? Someone give me some numbers. Is brandname worth the wait too? I'd say yes, and wait for MSI... but I have no details on the KT133A.

The KT133A supports 133(266)Mhz or 100(200)Mhz FSB Athlons.
The KT133 supports only 100(200)MHz FSB Athlons.

If you take a 100Mhz FSB chip and run it on a KT133A performance will be exactly the same as the KT133.

The KT133A allows the faster 133Mhz FSB chips, so your system has the potential for higher performance, but simply using the KT133A won't give you better peformance.

Noriaki, that is true- however, if he unlocked and underclocked his multiplier then upped the front side bus or just overclocked the fsb then he would get a very nice jump in performance. 😉

That's true taking a 1Ghz TBird and moving it to 7.5x133 instead of 10x100 would give him a fairly nice performance boost (and that's what I want to do with a Duron, get a 950Mhz pretesed one, and run at 7x133 for 933Mhz 😉)

Does anybody know where I can GET a KT133A board? Not finding any with a decent price on pricewatch. I don't want raid.

There is someone in the For Sale/Trade forums selling the ABit KT7A I think.

I've seen a few people with KT7As and Asus A7V133s
There is also Gigabyte 7ZXR 2.1 and MSi K7T-Turbo-R but those two aren't quite available yet.

They are not in widespread avialability yet I don't think, give it another week or two.

Yea there selling for $175 shipped not much of a deal there considering there is a hanfull of venders selling for same or less. I would rather take my chances with a vender thats been around forawhile if there is no difference in price.

I was going to get the KT7A board upgrade until I read

this charge regarding problems with the VIA Southbridge dragging down performance.
I'm going with a DDR board I think.

Has Anand or anyone else verified this hit? The Abit uses the same Southie

All the KT133A mobos use the same Southbridge. Kyle at Hardocp posted some pretty respectable HDD results in he's tests, and over-all tests using Winbench have shown better performance with the 686B. Tom seems to something against this chipset. First, he puts out the issue of the 1.5 gig Birds, pretty much fluff since all the mobo makers (not sure here about Soltek) use 6 MOSFET Power Regs. Now, he comes up with this crap.
