The Kyro2 is on sale right now at a local store here.

It's $40 less than the 64MB GF2MX!!

I've been reading a few reviews on it, looks like a good deal to me.

Any reason I shouldn't pick up this card?
Incompatiblities? Bad drivers? Low QC?

It's the Hercules 3D Prophet 4500.
 
for how much are u getting that kyro 2

on pricewatch its about 110 and the geforce 2 gts is 114 and the pro 64 is 140. Honestly at those prices the geforce 2 pro seems to be the best deal. the kyro II can beat the geforce 2 gts in 32 bit color, but not the pro 64. And for people that enjoy playing at ultra high resolution and 16 bit color any geforce 2 card would be a better buy over the kyro ii anyways.
 
All I can say is make sure you have a decent processor, the Kyro seems really processor dependent. Even with processors as fast as a 1GHz Athlon your still gaining quite a bit with each clock speed boost.
The Kyro is a very processor demanding card.
With a low end system your going to be better off with an MX.

Pricewatch is nearly useless becuase 85% of them won't ship outside the US 🙁

An MX 32MB is $160 CAD
The K2 is $190 CAD
A GTS 32MB or MX 64MB is $240 CAD

I don't know where to get Pros...but I'm looking to stay as near $200 as I can...

I don't think a GTS is worth $50 more to me...when programmable T&L is used, static T&L will be as useless as none....and the K2 can hang with the GF2 GTS in some current tests...
The K2 seems to be the king of UT...and since my favourite game right now is Rune which is based on UT, I kind of like that....

I'm on a tight budget here....


I have a Duron 750, with a Swiftech MC370...hopefully I'll get a Ghz out of it....that should be enough for now.

After all I'm upgrading from a V5-5500 here....

No I'm dreaming. Today I made the jump from 1.2 to 1.3 on the OEM fan (what I said I wasn't going to do). I am trying to put together about $150 for a waterblock, pump, and other goodies.
 
Look towardsoverclocking that system. in my experience they Kyro really doesnt seem to start showing it's capabilities until you hit at least a Athlon/P3 800MHz minimum... so I fgure around a Duron 900MHz/200MHz FSB.

I'm in process of buildinga new one...

It's a Duron 750 that I hope to hit 1G with....I'll overclock as much as I can anyways...AMD760 board, 512MB PC2100, the Kyro2, SBLive!, Linksys NIC, and IBM 75GXP hard drive.
 
Well your system seems like it'll do the Kyro fine besides the processor speed being a bit low.
Which AMD760 board do you have?

Drivers seem to be decent thus far though I don't have one in my Home PC so others may have much more experience with them. 2D quality is actually surprisingly good.
A few small game compatibility issues but PowerVR seems to be releasing updated drivers rapidly to correct all issues.

 
Yeah the Duron's just a cheapy for now....
I'm going to get an Athlon4.

My board is the K7 Master from MSi, me and a friend got a good price on buying a pair of them.

And the duron for $72 (canadian), which will beat my current Athlon 550, espeically since I can probably OC the Duron pretty good.
 
Have you had any stabilitiy issues with the K7 Master?
It seems like an excellent board but I've read allot of people have been experiencing stability problems.
I've not personally had any first hand experience with the board so I'm interested in how it is.

I had one.......checked it out in my 1.2G system against my Radeon 64, GTS &amp; Ultra.........It (the K2) was about equal if not a bit better overall than the Radeon 64, not quite up to the GTS overall, and was completely blown away by the Ultra.

The tests I ran were: Sandra, 3DMark 01', and Time Demo in Q2 (because my kids lost the Q3 CD)

IMHO the K2 is an OK card, especially for the money.......but if you want price/performance overall, go with a GTS, Pro, or Ultra if you're buying TODAY!😉
 
great card for the money if u play at resolutions of 1024+ in 32-bit...

2d is also excellent, from what i hear. (can anything really be worse than a geforce based card - barring gf3s)
 
my friend just got a 4500, and i just jacked it in my system to see how well it performed. i used the drivers on the cd, im not sure if they were the latest. im on a 26.4 connection so im not about to download stuff...

well, none of my games would run, openGL, Directx... [Q3, unreal, B&amp;W, CS..] so, i dunno, my it cuz my system is &quot;pentium&quot;.. all my friends say that. im the only person who is against via and pro-intel. hehe. oh well. it doesnt do T&amp;L, and b&amp;w does that alot =). i think my next card is gts pro. oy! or maybe ultra when it hits 200 or 150 <- right.

Because it doesn't do T&amp;L doesnt mean its preformance is very impacted in games (for the current games out right now)

I refuse to use 3d mark 2000 or 2001, it has has to be the worst benchmark program ever.
 
Just a note:

My target resolution is 1024x768x32...maybe 800x600x32 if 10x7 is slow...but 10x7 is my target.

I play:
Diablo2
Starcraft: Broodwars
Warcraft2: BNE
Everquest *
Rune (Unreal Tourny engine)
Quake3
Halflife &amp; Counterstrike

(*: This will be at 640x480x32 4xFSAA since EQ gets small if you up the res...it uses 640 x 480 pixels no matter what res the screen is at)

That's really all I can think of at the moment....

I want the Kyro2 to run those kind of games well.
I'm not terribly concerned about future games much, I gave up trying to future-proof my rig. It never works and it costs alot more than if you just buy what you need when you need it.
