A homemade drug that causes severe damage to the flesh of those who use it has reportedly shown up in the U.S.
Previously reported in Russia, Krokodil, a disfiguring and potentially lethal mixture of codeine and hydrocarbons such as oil, paint thinner, gasoline or alcohol, has made its way to Arizona.
According to doctors at Banner Poison Control Center, two cases of the drug have been reported in the state in the past week.

This drug scares the crap out of me. I really hope its use doesn't spread.

Update:
It's in Illonois as well.

Very disturbing that people would continue to use the stuff. Amazing how the brain works (or doesn't work in this case).

I think it's disturbing that people would use it, but on the other hand this one is kind of a self-solving problem.

Bad drugs like these, just like bad viruses, don't spread too well. If death is a near enough certainty, then it just isn't going to allow itself to establish an addictable market.

Remember when the great fear in the mid-90s was Ice? Yeah, that didn't go anywhere. Apparently, turning people into zombies for 7 days straight and killing them really limits your potential client pool.

Ice is just crystal meth as far as I know.

The only drug that came up on Google when I searched is Meth. We all know how that turned out. D:

Well, in Russia and many other countries people simply don't have any hope or future (even if they are very smart/do great).....and they give up/turn to self destruction.

It must create a powerful high for people to keep using it after their flesh starts to rot away. The whole krokodil thing reminds me of the movie "Requiem for a Dream" for some reason.

It's going very strong still.

But in reality not all methheads end up looking like a bunch of skinny, ran down, wrinkled, ugly fucks.

You can stay pretty functional on it as long as you make sure to still sleep and eat. I know, been there done that. It does take it's toll, but it's not as always to tell as the news would like people to believe.

But if this is actually a common side effect and not just what the media wants you to believe. Well fuck'em let them do it and die.

I recall it being a particularly potent form of meth and well, meth doesn't send you into a 4+ day stupor after one hit as Ice supposedly did.

It was featured in that Lungren/Brandon Lee romp Showdown in Little Tokyo. And I recall prominently featured in our narcotics section for our High School Health class that year.

..I also recall reading a fairly recent article about how Ice completely disappeared. I'll try to dig some more.

ah, seems you are right: basically crystaline form of meth, aka crystal meth. I guess only the name "died out" in wider use... :\
