Kroger produce sucks. **UPDATE** Blueberries are MOLDY (pics).

On a whim, I went to Kroger today instead of my usual Sunday jaunt to Meijer. Now that I've been there however, I'll never get produce from Kroger again. I wanted to get some peaches, some nectarines and some blueberries. When I looked at the peaches, every single one was waaay too soft to be sold at a supermarket (i.e. they were already very very ripe). The nectarines were the same way - about half of them had big brown spots on them.

Then, I turned around to look for blueberries, and I saw packages of strawberries in the produce case - and one of the strawberries had mold on it! At this point, I was disgusted, and I finally found the blueberries. The blueberries aren't packed by Kroger (they're from a private company), so they seemed pretty fresh.

I've never had an issue with freshness at Meijer, and I've never done produce shopping at Kroger before. I don't think I'll be going back for a while.

UPDATE: Okay, so about the blueberries I bought? They looked fine outside the package, but inside the plastic container, I found MOLD when I sat down to eat them after lunch today. This is crap. I'm going back to Kroger today, I'm going to return the blueberries, and I'll speak to a manager about the condition of Kroger's crappy produce.

I like buying my produce at the weekly farmer's market. It's a little more expensive, but it's the best and they'll usually even let you sample before buying.

Agreed.

Going out to the local Farmer's Market is the only way to go for me. Fruits and veggies taste so much better when they're farm-fresh. I'm glad we have a great selection of farmer's markets in my area. :)

I know EXACTLY what you mean. All of the (overpriced) Brocolli in Kroger is brown and spoiled. I WANT to go to Kroger since it's closer to my apartment, but I force myself to go the Ann Arbor-Saline Meijer because it's significantly better.

Talk to the store manager or call the regional offices (they are in Livonia...used to do some software work for them from a previous employer).

The Krogers here are generally pretty good.

Kroger sucks in general. Some of the grocery stores around me started carrying Kroger stuff and the quality was a big drop off. Their cheese is nasty.

I'm a frequent customer to the meijers on ann arbor saline...didnt realize how many atoters we have in the area. I'm moving closer to the Krogers on north campus (5 mins away in fact) next year, so gonna have to drive pretty far to my meijers.

That's how the produce is at all the Meijers around me, except usually their entire stock of strawberries is molded.

I live about half a mile from the Ann Arbor-Saline Meijer, but I had to go to Rite-Aid this afternoon, so I decided to try the Maple Road Kroger. :)

Never ever buy cheap cuts of meat at kroger.

They had pot roasts on sale one week, so I decided to get one to cook up for my roomates. I buy a suitible cut, take it home, cook it up, and when i'm carving it, I notice what looks like a bundle of fat. So I trim it off, and upon closer inspection, I see that it's a bundle of VEINS.

I've NEVER had that happen on a pot roast. Not to mention the meat itself tasted like an old shoe.

I ended up giving it to the dog. He had no complaints. No wonder it was so cheap :disgust:

I don't understand peaches anyway. far as I can tell there is no moment when they're right. they go straight from not ripe to compost. if I could find ripe but not dead peaches, I'd buy 'em in a minute (and eat 'em soon as I got home). since I never can, I'm either hopelessly optomistic or I buy 'em once in a while because the compost enjoys a peach now and then. not sure which. can't remember the last time I actually ate one, but I do buy some now and then.

I use the one on Industrial across the street from a CVS. I live on State Street about 3/4 miles North of 94.

As for living on North Campus, the Plymouth Kroger is slightly better (I frequented it while living on NC Frosh year), but if you tend to buy lots of meat and produce, then I would suggest heading down 23. ;)

PS. Avoid the Carpenter Meijers, thats the worst of them all. :disgust: :(

Heh, I've never heard of Kroger or Meijer. It's pretty easy to find decent produce in California, though.
