Kroger manager fired after he slams a knife-wielding shoplifter to the ground

Guy is an idiot. Why would he risk his life over property? And not even his property? When even the owner of the property doesn't want him doing it?
 
It isn't just the manager who can sue, depending on the circumstances. Suppose this had gone a little bit differently and a helpful customer had decided to help the manager while he was wrestling for the knife and got stabbed and killed. They would be potentially liable for that death as well. Having a confrontation on their property with an armed assailant isn't just dangerous for the manager, it is dangerous for the other employees and the customers. The best way for the company to be rid of the liability is for the knife wielder to be off their property and the fastest way for that to happen is to let them just leave and let it be the police's problem.

Some people having compelling feelings of right and wrong. It's hard to explain to people who don't have them.

Until they keep coming back and back and back. Pretty soon, their friends are coming too because they know the store won't do anything.

The government should really do something about that. Maybe they could hire some people to hunt down those who threaten the public safety and commit acts of robbery and put them somewhere they can't hurt anyone but themselves or each other. This being a matter of enforcing the law we could call them law enforcement. I think we are really onto something here so lets write our congressmen and see if we can get them to give this law enforcement thing a try.

So naive. You really think the police care about catching criminals that don't net them income to pay for their fancy toys and shiny new cars? Cops don't give a shit when a car gets stolen, what makes you think they care about a $0.99 can of soup?

Are you American? If you want the police to stop things like this you have to hire them. My local grocery stores hire off duty Dallas police officers & Dallas County Sherriff's Deputies to stand at the front and play on their phones. It costs about $60\hr.

You think they are just walking away and coming back non stop ?
 
A place I used to work at had a loss prevention employee who was also a police officer.

Any one who shoplifted while he was working soon regretted that decision.

Yep. Very seldom do the police go after someone. More often times than not, a criminal is caught because he/she committed a more serious crime later and was apprehended. The police then match the perp to the description from the other crimes and *bam* they're the heroes "hard at work".

There's no winning with "policy princesses." In their world, the job is not service or creating a product, it is following policy period. They even think that's the definition of doing a "good " job. They are always surprised when they find out that they are universally hated by people who create things.
 
Not worth having an employee getting shot/stabbed over a can of soap. If they are loosing enough money to shoplifting they will hire loss prevention that is allowed to go after people.

Because he is threatening other people and the human instinct in to protect them.

Its okay though, I know that you have buried your instincts long ago. 🙂

You lose quite a bit when you do that, though. Just my 0.02 not that you care. (my instinct tells me you won't care).

I doubt you are very good at making a decisive decision with limited available information, for example.
