When trying to hook up a kraken x60 to an xtreme 6, i noticed that the threads on the cooler's back harness are too shallow to receive the screws from the pump. the CPU backplate is too thick and the cooler's harness does not fit around it, causing the dimension issue. what is the cheapest way for me to resolve this problem? do i just need a newer cooler or is there some sort of hacky fix I can throw together?

Some Pictures might help...

Oh wow I can't believe I forgot to do that. I've updated the OP. The photos are not the best quality but I had to do it quickly. I can maybe get higher quality ones after work tomorrow. Basically, the fittings in the first/second picture are not sufficiently penetrating the motherboard for the pump screws to match. I've already begun trying to file down the unneeded sections of the fitting to try and get it to be closer to the CPU block.

STOP!
Remove the factory lock down for the CPU,carefully place your CPU in the socket then try you unit. As long as you have a water cooler on it, you'll be OK without the factory lock down. I have done this before to be able to use a water block, as long as you don't over tighten any thing you'll be fine(I don't think it can go very far anyway).
Post back better photo's after the fact............

will the pump directly mount on stock retension system without the usage of a backplate?

is the holes too big or the threads not matching?

Thanks, I will try this out.

The holes on the stock plate are too big for the cooler's threads

can u goto a hardware store and find nuts + nylon washers which will fit the coolers threads?

These...

use the stock retention, and ditch the plastic backplate as the board itself has a backplate.

just use a nut with nylon washers on the underside.

just make sure u get the threading correct..
