ok, building a new box, and, well, its just not working. it will just not post, no video, nothing. when i power up, the lights on the MB are on, (standby power, and power on), hard drive spins up, fans are going, but no video.
sys specs: Abit KR7A-Raid, AthlonXP 1900+, Alpha 8045 HSF, Corsair XMS2400 DDR, Maxtor D740X HD, Enermax 430W PS, Geforce 2 Pro and GeForce 3 Ti500. i've tried both video cards, no success. both cards work in my old box. ive turned it on with the mb in the case and out of the case on the static bag. tried diff sticks of memory. also with no drives hooked up just video, ram and processor. i checked the CPU, and it doesnt seem to be burned out, and by the looks of the thermal paste, was making good contact with the HSF. no chips or cracks on the die either.
what could be going on? do you think its a bad mobo, or could it be a dead CPU? or something else i'm doing wrong? any help would be apprieciated. i might get a duron or something tomorrow to see if it's the cpu, but i'd rather not do that.
thanks in advance.

Seen numerous posts with this same problem...most find the RAM to blame, seems the KR7A has a real tight fit there...try pushing them
down another 1/32" *after* the white levers close.

Sometimes a video card may "appear" to be seated properly but it isn't. Give the "end", the side furthest away from the connector, a good push and you might notice it will seat further down. I have noticed this problem on a few of the new machines we've recently put together.

If the fans come on and there is a constant regular beeping (doesn't stop, even rythm, every 4-5 secs) this is the RAM. Keep trying to reseat it - it took me dozens of tries, literally. I had the tech-rep at abit listen to the beeping pattern and he said that was the code for the RAM not working right.

If it is not beeping, I am not sure, there are other codes - check the FAQs at abit. Vid is like 2 short 1 long or something.

Glad it worked. Now that I got the whole thing going, I am trying to get the second stick in - same problem. I guess I will just have to seat it another dozen times. I wonder if they made the slots funky in these boards...

The KR7 takes 4 DDR dimms which is electronically challenging to engineer. The KR7 may use funky DIMM sockets in order to overcome electical issues with 4 DIMMS (most DDR boards only have 3).
