KR7A is Sweet! If you tweak memory right...

After a few BSOD's, I dug and found this site, which solved my problem:

The memtest86 program referred to here is killer. I first set all memory timings per the recommended "Optimum SDRAM Settings " for the KR7A then ran program. It reported errors, I'd adjust settings, then rerun. Only settings I had to adjust to get sweet love were:

DRAM Command Rate: 2T (instead of 1T)
And I upped the DDR voltage to 2.65V in the Softmenu III

No errors reported by this extensive memory tester, and no more BSOD! CAS2 and 150MHz FSB (300MHz DDR) have been realized!

what ram are you using ?

My crucial 2 x 256 is running at CAS 2 4 way... 2-2-6 2t at 2.65 at 150 fsb...I found even if I go 2.75 v ..1T causes problems..I am using 6 not 5 precharge since I have my HDD on HPT 372 controller and I think it was Pauls Abit FAQ recommends if you use RAID to use 6 not 5 on precharge...my HDD are being used as ATA133/100...and I have not tried to change it ...


Board seems very stable at 150 fsb...I have played return Castle Wolfenstein for 1.5 hrs without a hiccup

My cpu is 1700+ at 1650 with 1.85v

Two OCZ 256MB PC2400's. Actually Nanya PC2100 modules, rated CL 2-2-2. Pretty good stuff though. I put Thermaltake Heat Spreaders on; though I don't think they really do much.

DRAM Command Rate = 1T really made a difference in MB/sec transfer. Memtest reported 599MB/s during test with 1T, while 2T was 528MB/s, all other settings same. Too bad I couldn't get this setting to stabilize.

FAQ says "multiple" sticks of memory may have hard time with 1T.

ANYONE able to get stability with DRAM Command Rate 1T ??

I have 2 sticks of crucial pc2100 256 mg ...they do not like 1T..even upped the voltage to 2.75 v and system becomes unstable...but 2T at 2.65 v purrs like a kitten

Just got done with little test. 1T worked fine with only one memory module installed. As soon as I popped other one in, errors. I knew there was a reason why I was going to buy one 512MB instead of two 256MB!

I suspect this is the case regardless of what memory type. I've seen similar reports for: OCZ, crucial, Mushkin, among others. Anyone with two or more sticks having luck with DRAM Command Rate=1T ??

I know this doesnt help (maybe?), but if I remember right my MSI K7T266a board has a setting for DRAM of 1T and Im running it right now on two sticks of Crucial DDR 2100 with thermal take heatspreaders (for looks mostly, have window). No overclocking, 2-5-2 settings for timing. Basically ive pumped up every memory setting I could since this board (or components) for some reason didnt like to overclock to well.

Hopefully with some more cash flow (who can ever get enuff of that), I'll have my KR7A up and running...I only have one stick of High performance DDR Mushkin 256Mb 2-2-2 ram...was planning adding in another, well keep you posted what I find out with this board and ram..hopefully it will overclock like a mutha with some serious ram settings.
