Best of luck!

Some tips:

1) Pay a quick visit to the rest room when you arrive. Blow your nose & make sure there isn't any dandruff on your shoulders.
2) Eye contact is very important. Utilize it as appropriate.
3) Speak clearly and at a good pace so your words don't run together.
4) Ensure that you have sufficient knowledge about this company. I heard of one executive who didn't get an offer extended to him because they asked him the closing price of their stock during the previous day. Needless to say, the individual didn't have an answer when the question was asked.
5) Ask plenty of questions. After all, you're going to be working for them. They will probably not tell you everything during the interview. Also, if you ask intelligent questions, it shows that you have a great interest in their company.

Best of luck!! :)

I should clarify that the person who didn't get the job was not interviewing with KPMG, but rather another company. However, they want to see how much you know about their company, so one should be well prepared for almost any question that could come up.

KPMG is still KPMG!

Management advisory service is still an assurance service provided by KPMG. Bearing Point is the consulting arm that spinned off from KPMG and is now a public company, although KPMG owns a 20% stake in the company. KPMG still exists and is very healthy.

I interviewed with KPMG in Michigan and found the firm was not what I was looking for. Althouth they are very small in the Detroit area, they are the second largest Big4 Accounting firm in revenue behind PwC. Clients include Xerox and DaimlerChrysler.

Great firm, although they are under heavy fire from the SEC. Nothing major to worry about though, good luck with your job search.

To clarify, all the accounting firms have sold or separated from their consulting arms to strengthen independence from its audit clients:
Andersen Consulting became Accenture
KPMG Consulting became Bearing Point
Ernst & Young Consulting became Cap Gemini Ernst & Young
PwC sold its consulting practice to IBM
Deloitte Consulting became Braxton

Anymore questions regarding the public accounting profession, feel free to shoot me a PM. I'm sure TChen can help you also.

They love it when you stay current with the profession news. Maybe you can ask them how Sarbanes-Oxley has affected the firm, and if there are exciting opportunities that the firm can now take advantage of. The S-O Act now prohibits certain services to be provided to audit clients by CPA firms, so this is an exciting time for many firms to gain some revenue source by providing the "prohibited services" to non audit clients such as acturarial services and internal audits.

Is this for full time or internship? I love interviewing, I have a second round with Ernst & Young coming up soon.

Again best of luck to you.

KPMG LLP and KPMG Consulting or KCI (Bearing Point) are separate entities. KCI preemptively went public about 2 years ago as a result of proposed SEC regulatory rules regarding public accounting firms that provided consulting services. Its an Enron thing, the SEC saw the consulting work as a conflict of interest and is/was probably right (again see "Enron").

I spent 3 years with KPMG in their Transaction Services/Mergers and Acquisitions (ABAS) practice and it was definitely a great experience. You'll learn a lot, and you may get the opportunity to travel a lot (I travelled all over, domestic and abroad). Good luck with the interview.

Oh yah, most people probably don't recognize the firm b/c of the acronym. KPMG is much better known in the states as Peat Marwick or KPMG Peat Marwick, with the full acronym being Klenveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler.

ok.... finally finished with the interview. This is my first interview with firms like this and it was also my first behavioral interview. I was pretty nervous at first, but then the interviewer was pretty cool and made me relax a little. I think overall the interview was pretty good...I hope I get a call from them soon!
