My husband, aves2k, just got this game. Will I ever get to use the computer again? 😉😛

Should I try this game too?

Well, it depends on how many times and how many different ways he wishes to beat the game. Personally, I beat it 4 times, once light, and 3 times dark. Its amazingly addictive. 🙂 Give it a shot.

Yup, I've played it once through, took me 20 hours first time, I skipped most if not all side quests. I went full-on light side, I plan to play through again full dark side. My only beef is there's too many abilities and not enough skill/feat/power points to use and upgrade them all.

I still love KOTOR. I have played it through many times, once dark side the rest light side. It's tons of fun and never the same game twice.

Play the game, ohtwell.

Actually if you go through the side quests I think you can become really powerful. I'm just going through the second time, but this time when I met Malak on the battleship, I nearly killed him before the cut-scene came into play, and barely losing any health. I think I should get most of the light side powers before the end.

I've been hearing so much good things about this game. Is it like turn based RPGs (like final fantasy)? Thats really the only RPGs that I like.

I beat it in about 30 hours (doing some of the side quests).

My wife ended up playing it for 50+ hours because she played every side quest.

It is a little slow at first, but once in picks up 🙂

The battles are turn based.

Yep, turn-based.

If it takes 30 hours to play, then I'll be playing it for the next few months. 🙂

I think I'll try it after he beats it. More than likely I'll play it dark first. I love the dark side! 😀

I'm not usually very good at these kinds of games, but I'm willing to give it a try, because everyone seems to think it's worth it! 😀

I don't recall KOTOR being turn based like Final Fantasy, unless that is in the options. IIRC, the enemies will continue attacking you regardless of whether you attack or not. It is real time with a 'behind-the-scenes' d&d-ish system. It is like Baldurs Gate except with a new graphics engine.

But, I wouldn't judge the game simply based on the combat style, I'd recommend KOTOR to just about any gamer looking for a fun experience.

I picked it up this weekend and have played for about an hour so far. I already have a feeling the wife will not be seeing much of me for the next couple of weeks. 😛

You're so bad....bad bad bad. Y are you so bad?

It is turn based, but it's hidden behind the animations. Think neverwinter nights or baldur's gate 2. Combat is wholly decided by you stats and weapon choices, including speed and initiative and relative position(just like AD&D). What happens is that you automatically enter combat when the enemies get near enough and all the "dice rolls" are made for you. What you see on screen is the game engine taking the results of those rolls and dynamically generating an animated battle for you. If you do something (like use the force or change your weapons, the computer folds those variables into the next set of rolls.)

It's a fantastic game. I played through 2 or 3 times. I feel bad being dark side though. It actually makes me feel like a bad guy. Tons of sidequests and stuff though. I did everything both times. My lightside guy was pure saberist w/ uber fast strike abilities w/ a single saber. At the end, I went toe to toe with the final boss (name withheld so as not to spoil) and just beat him to the ground without incident.

damn i guess you're right. by the time i fought malak, i was only level 12. Still kicked his ass all over the place though. Next time through I'm stocking up on Computer Spikes for more of that sweet ass armor at the end.

... and thats why I hate xbox owners🙁

Hmmmmm.....

I'm a bit paranoid. KOTOR II isn't being done by Bioware, but instead looks like Lucas Arts took it over. I hope they keep the same engine and don't screw up what was a nearly perfect game.
