I know I am a bit late considering when this game came out..but I still had to say it.

I may have to play this too then! I have heard everybody talking about how good it is, but never played it. I will have to check it out despite the fact I don't like RPGs that much.

Do you suggest the PC version or the XBOX version? My PC specs are in my sig. Thanks.

Good question. I have an Xbox too, but I wanted to be able to turn up the graphics as high as they would go, and update the game as needed. I chose the PC version, and it has run pretty well on just my 1.76Ghz Athlon XP w/1GB pc3200 and a 9700Pro stock. I run it at 1280x1024 with no problem. Yours would obviously run even better due to the A64 and the 9800.

so..yeah..get it, you won't be dissapointed if you like Star Wars and adventure at all. Like I said..this is really my first RPG-like game, and I love it.

Question: should I start with KOTOR I and then progress into KOTOR II?

yes and don't read any message boards about it because the first game can be spoiled for you in one sentence.
You mean the part where Darth Vader is sucked through time and starts a new race of super-jedi in the past?

;)

KOTOR was great! And it's a lot more approachable for non-RPGers than certain games like bg. I gave up on BG after a while.

While KOTOR2 doesnt have twists like KOTOR1, I felt it was much better in terms of character development and overall plot.

BOTH endings?

DS - LS . . . they are very different from each other

noooo...is that why you said it took you 44 hours? Because you did both? I plan on doing the DS one sometime in the next two weeks. I kept a couple of saved games early on..I guess Ill just start acting like a badass from then on.

However, I just got Jade Empire...judging from its insane rating on IGN and all the good reviews..and since it is made by Bioware, I felt it deserved my money. It looks good.

of course, i ain't THAT slow to catch on. :p

i played ALL the quests [except for some really minor ones when Taris was depopulated] . . . if it gave me too many D/S points, i deleted it and went back to a more 'neutral' save.

i really played as a l/s'er with all the bad-boy force powers

there is ONE point - pretty near the end - where you HAVE to choose LS or DS . . . i saved there and played thru each ending . . . you don't have to start all over unless you want to [knowing about the quests as well as the weakess of the mele weapons and "how to" level up properly]

I found the original KOTOR to be far superior to the second. The second suffered from terrible art (obviously, no chance to produce higher resolution textures for the PC), a slow, uninteresting storyline (you had things to compel you in KOTOR 1 - you were racing against time, you had party members with their own demons you had to help them with, you had to save Bastila...things that gave the game momentum), and a TERRIBLE ending.

KOTOR 1 was a beautiful example of pacing - it just kept building and building until it peaked VERY well on the Star Forge. And the Dark Side ending was utterly depraved (especially if you "engineer" your tragic fall, as I did ;) ).

The only advantage KOTOR 2 had over the first in my opinion was the addition of party influence, but overall I couldn't bring myself to care about the characters or the plot. So I don't know who I am and I need to find out? Meh, so what? So Atton used to kill Jedi and regrets his actions? I really don't care. Carth lost his son and wife to my very nemesis. That got me engaged. Bastila was my significant other and got KIDNAPPED. THAT will pull you into a game. The fact that one of my party members has bad blood with a wookiee bounty hunter is mundane by comparison.

I have additional rants. Characters are wasted. Darth Nihilus is played up through the whole game, his amazing power, his dark mystery and then you kill him with little fuss. I have a feeling Obsidian had far greater plans for him that had to be cut.

Darth Sion was slightly better (and for the record, one of my favorite villians of all time), but still not given enough script.

Overall KOTOR 2 is a perfect example of a game ruined by rushed release. With another 12 months to simmer in the pot, I have no doubt it could've surpassed the original.

I'm halfway through KOTOR2. And there's something that keeps bugging me. Remember when the handmaiden keeps saying that she has lost you when you go over to the dark side?

Well do you actually get to fall in love with her if you are light?

The ending isn't THAT bad. It definately sets up the possibility of a truly epic 3rd title...

However if it weren't for the bugs KOTOR2 would definately be better despite missing the incredible twist. The game is a defiante improvement down to the little details, the bugs nearly killed the experience for me (kept crashing on my XBOX).

She can fall in love with you irrespective of your alignment. Same with Visas.

Yeah, I made my dude seduce Visas. I used the handmaiden ruthlessly to learn fighting techniques but dissed her in the end.
