KOTOR II - is it any good?

Just finished KOTOR (1) - one of the oldies released during my 'blackout period' - some years when I didn't own a half decent gaming rig. So it was in my catch up-list.

Excellent game - I throughly enjoyed the story. Now a simple question: is KOTOR II a worthy sequel? Shouldn't cost much, but if it's total crap (eg like DAII) I won't bother.

Not as good as the first plot wise, but the gameplay is just as fun. So yes it is well worth a play.

In some parts it's not as good as the original but pretty good game overall.

If you say KOTOR I is a 10/10 i'd give KOTOR II 8/10.

You'll find plenty of complaints about it but I beleive that's largely due to how the plot / length of the game went.

So, first off. Nothing compares to the crap that is DAII. Pure and simple that was one of the biggest ball drops in gaming history.

KoTor II was a decent game. It is well worth the time and effort, particularly if you liked the first one. I think it compares very favorably with Kotor 1.

One side note, the ending was broken and poorly executed, so be aware. But up to that point it should be a very enjoyable experience. Even the ending was enjoyable so long as you didn't look too closely.

It is very good, enough though LucasArts made Obsidian ship it before they could finish the ending. There is an ending, it's just a bit rushed and hacked together.

The journey to get there is still well worth playing, along both the light and dark paths. Obsidian's writing for the dark side choices is much better than Bioware's.

Thanks all. I'll give it a shot then.

Seems I have to endure getting a disc - odd that only KOTOR1 made to to steam

You killed it for me. I was going to say the ending was AWESOME.

In reality it's like this, "Wait, what.....credits? Let me reload the last save maybe something got bugged........crap"

the funny thing is, with all the games with poor or unfinished endings in the gaming universe, ME3 is the one that gets the Forbes article. WTH?

Kotor II is a great game. The ending is meh, but the rest of the game is fantastic fun. Overall, I recommend it.

Need I say more?

Quite possibly you are correct. At the very least, exposure played a big part in that.

I did quite like the Indoctrination theory though. "it was all deeper than anyone realised". It's like someone making a really big blunder and then saying "Oh, i meant to do that".

Do a search newb, we already got threads on this.

The answer to your question is Yes.
It was released incomplete and that shows in a couple spots in the game, its got some minor annoyances, but the combat is just as good if not better, and like the movies the 2nd chapter takes a darker turn but not so much that you hate playing it. The interface is improved enormously, they added a buttload of force powers, prestige classes, tons of new equipment, pretty good crafting (which can also be ignored if you dont wanna waste time), loads of cool side quests, the ability to make almost all of your allies into Jedi, a few new combat tricks like saber styles and force forms, practically unlimited levels, random loot that gets better depending on your difficulty setting, and also something most people didnt notice: You can frequently swap out party members even when it doesnt make sense in the context of the story. Theres also two places in the game to arena fight for lots of XP, but the first one gets locked out if you leave the area.

I've been meaning to get back into KOTOR II, it just fell by the wayside waiting for the restoration mod to rebuild everything (or most of) left on the discs content-wise. Now it's finding the time to reinstall and mod to hell and back again.

I'm near the end right now, but I appear to have hit a game-breaking bug. I'm suppose to talk to a character to move on, and then a cinematic appears, but afterwards the screen is black; nothing I've tried brings the picture back.

I might go back to an earlier save sometime to see if I can get past it.

As to the game - It's pretty epic, at least as long as the original. It doesn't quite live up to KotOR, but it's not a bad effort.

Make sure you grab the restored content patch.

The core game without anything extra is totally playable. You can beat it on any difficulty with either a light or dark ending (they really arent much different).

KOTOR 1 was one of my favorite 3 or 4 games ever. KOTOR 2 had fun game play but a somewhat muddled plot IMO, and definitely a really unfinished (to put it nicely) ending. I would agree with you on the rest of the game, but view the ending much less favorably than you.
There is a great sequence leading up to the final ending, but after the ending I just sat there stunned waiting for the rest, which never came. (Wow, kind of like ME3.) Whatever you think of TOR, it is too bad they never made a KOTOR 3 true single player game to finish up a great franchise.

Yes, it's really good.

The problem is, the original KotOR is easily in the discussion of Top 5 RPGs of all time.

KOTOR 2 just simply doesn't live up to that. The plot comes apart at the end (or, really, never ever comes together), the characters aren't nearly as likable or charismatic as the first game, and this might be nitpicky, but the starting area (Peragus Mining Station) has to be one of the most god-awfully boring and drab areas to start any game with. If it hadn't have had the KotOR name attached to it, I might very well have just given up on KOTOR II after Peragus.

Ugh.

You are right about the beginning of the game too, even though most complaints were about the ending. If I remember, the part where you started out on the wrecked ship, there was even an option to skip that part. That tells you something. The ending and beginning of KOTOR 1, on the other hand, were both really, really excellent. Edit: And I agree with you about the plot too, as I said above. It just didnt really make sense. I kept waiting for it too all come together at the end, but it never did.

Yeah this.

I did not care for the game at all.

Mostly because I hated Kreia. Wandering around the galaxy while some old women nags you about everything you do really got on my nerves.

KOTOR was playable?

It crashed so much when I tried to play it, it was unplayable.
Was disappoint.

I played it on XP and did not have any really serious issues. I do remember a lot of problems when I tried to replay it on Vista though. I haven't tried it on win 7. At least on XP, I think kotor2 was buggier than the first one.

It should run just fine in compatability mode on Vista/Win7.

How happy you are with the sequel of any game probably depends on if you played the original..KOTOR II is aimed at fans of the original, since it's a very similar game whose storyline picks up not long after the first one left off...It Looks like a great game.!
