The reason I don't like MMOs isn't because of the monthly fee, it's because I see them as basically grind-fests that artificially stretch out the gameplay to keep you coming back, and also for the monthly fee they're not fun enough.

I'd rather pay $15/mo for COD4 multiplayer and get access to new weapons, perks, and maps on a regular basis.

People don't hate MMOs because they're "kiddies" who "can't afford it." Most people who don't like them simply dislike the gameplay. Many dislike RPGs in general, but many like single player RPGs. The problem with MMOs is that there is no single player option if you don't like the online play. It's all or nothing.

and yet, MMO's are the future of gaming.

like reality TV was supposed to be the future of TV?

MMOs are just like reality TV in that they're too shallow to completely replace the more traditional games.

If KOTOR3 is a true MMO then it will be only be because of financial motivation and not artistic direction, and thus it will be lame compared to what it could have been.

I'm looking forward to Dragon Age, too.

It will be the real successor to Neverwinter Nights.

However, it's been in development long enough already, and it looks like it's even been put on the back burner.

Aye :( Previously, they were ramping up and promoting for Mass Effect, but with EA at the helm now, work will likely begin on ME2 and 3 right away.

I'm not sure how many employees Bioware has, but typically most developers only focus on one title at a time. They may kick around ideas, storyboard, and so forth, for other titles they are producing, but until they get into the final stages of development on their primary product, work is very slow on secondary titles.

People still complain about the monthly fee for MMOs? I guess thats a good thing, keeps some of the idiots and kiddies out, but not near enough (See WoW).

I doubt this is true though, as Bioware's In Development link lists the MMO and Bioware/LucasArts project as separate projects.

Yeah and what's the problem? Because people complain about that it automatically makes them idiots and they suddenly become kiddies in the process as well?

Typically, yes, because the kiddies typically have McJobs and can't afford to spend money monthly for a game. People with decently paying jobs don't care.

With the amount of money WoW pulls in every month with the 15/month subscriptions, don't expect any decent MMO to change from that.

I have to disagree with you there. If you play an MMO like WoW, you generally don't need other games. That's only $15/month instead of $50+ that you'd spend on new games.

I just don't like paying for a game that I already purchased, on principle. It's the same reason I don't like Xbox live; most of the content being sold there should have been in those games in the first place. In my experience, it has always been adults with well-paying jobs that have shared this opinion. The kiddies are charging their parents' credit card anyway, so what do they care?

I can understand a fee to maintain/upgrade hardware, but there comes a point at which the profit margin is simply excessive :p Can't blame a company for wanting to make money, and $15 isn't that bad, but I feel $10 is much more reasonable (I used to play Asheron's Call)

The KOTOR formula is already almost perfect though... they make fantastic singleplayer games! There is no way to translate that to an MMO. It could never be the same.

It would be interesting to see Bioware make a Scifi WoW, since no company has been able to successfully do this well (or at least not as well as WoW has fared). Still, I'd rather they produce a KOTOR 3 that finishes the story that has been developing. An MMO will just create a never ending stream of bullshit to put up with for those of us that just want to finish the damn story...
