KOTOR 3 is Bioware's secret MMO?

Kotaku

Some of the titles they report Lucasarts apparently have in this stacked pipeline, whether as publisher or developer, include:

- KOTOR 3 (They say it's an MMO: most likely a joint project between Lucasarts and BioWare)

People have been speculating along those lines for a while, but it's always interesting to hear more hints and consider the possibilities.

Interesting... just don't let SOE take over or they'll butcher it like they did SWG.

I would of looked forward to a new KoTOR but if its an MMO that uses the same terrible pricing model of current games I won't even look twice at it. Not that they'll care since millions of other people will still buy it and pay $15+ a month to play it. Stupid people IMO

People still complain about the monthly fee for MMOs? I guess thats a good thing, keeps some of the idiots and kiddies out, but not near enough (See WoW).

I doubt this is true though, as Bioware's In Development link lists the MMO and Bioware/LucasArts project as separate projects.

Yeah and what's the problem? Because people complain about that it automatically makes them idiots and they suddenly become kiddies in the process as well?

Bioware doesn't want to deal with IP's they can't control and they have said this numerous times already. So for a MMO I highly doubt Bioware will be wasting their time with LucasArt and their Starwars IP when they have already developed a game like Mass Effect.

Kotor as an MMO?! NEVER!!! That would destroy the game, but it seems Bioware might have their eyes on the MMO cash cow that WoW has created and they want a slice of the cake- I won't be eating that cake, leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

Well, this is just a rumor, but BioWare did sign a deal with Lucasarts for an unannounced project.

Lucasarts and Bioware To Develop Ground-Breaking Interactive Entertainment Product

October 30, 2007 ? LucasArts and BioWare today announced that they have entered into an agreement to create an interactive entertainment product. The product, details of which will be unveiled at a later date, will be developed and published by BioWare and LucasArts, and will push the boundaries of the gaming market by utilizing the strengths of both companies to deliver an innovative, high-quality experience.

?BioWare?s mission is to deliver the best story and character-driven games in the world, delivering powerful emotional experiences to our fans.? said Ray Muzyka, chief executive officer, BioWare. Added Greg Zeschuk, president of BioWare, ?The collaboration with LucasArts allows us to combine our passion for creating high quality and innovative experiences with those of a company dedicated to bringing only the finest games to market.

And yes, I have seen the interviews where BioWare talks about wanting to focus on their own IPs. It's a smart move, but they obviously don't mind doing a Lucas project on the side.

I'm looking forward to Dragon Age.

Typically, yes, because the kiddies typically have McJobs and can't afford to spend money monthly for a game. People with decently paying jobs don't care.

With the amount of money WoW pulls in every month with the 15/month subscriptions, don't expect any decent MMO to change from that.

I have a good paying job and I still hate the idea of paying every month for a game. I don't see the point of paying to play a game you already bought. I tried WoW for a few months and besides being able to social with friends in game I didn't get much enjoyment out of it.

Nothing wrong with paying a monthly fee if they provide content for that fee. Plus MMO servers are expensive to run and maintain. The initial cost of the game isn't enough to cover the upkeep of the servers.

I don't think the monthly fee is awfully expensive and it is justified but it's still a nuisance, if anything, MMOs are chock-full of kiddies and idiots so I don't see what your point was either.

MMOs are pretty weak games, I'm sorry, I've tried many and I hated them all, they are just not fun, they are a big, fat, expensive grind, of course that's just my opinion, tons of people seem to live by them.

Of all the games Blizzard has made, WoW is the only game I do not think is absolutely brilliant.

This has been an open secret for ages now. Everyone knows it's going to happen.

Bio has dropped some hints that they're going to make this MMO more story-driven (and in a non-perfunctory way). Not sure how, but they've been hiring a lot of guys who can do Bio-style content...

It is not necessarily that we hate MMOs, we just think KOTOR wouldn't be good as a MMO.

Thus far KOTOR has been all about developing your character as one of the most absolute badass Jedi to ever live. I don't want to play a game where I'm a janitor or some BS, I want an epic story where I'm the main character and not some pawn.

If KOTOR 3 turns out to be an MMO I will give up PC gaming.
That and Fallout 3 are the only things keeping me motivated.
I have absolutely nothing else to look forward to.

Dragon Age is coming

BioWare co-CEO Ray Muzyka describes Dragon Age as a 'spiritual successor' to the Baldur's Gate series.

Along with a Fallout MMO ;)

In April 2008, Interplay announced that the Fallout MMO has entered production.

I would of prefered KOTOR3 to be a single player game like the older KOTOR series, also I wonder why they never bothered to make any expansion packs for KOTOR series,we all know how popular they became.....KOTOR2 could of done with an expansion pack especially when you see how the game ends(yes I know it was rushed and a lot of content never got into the game).

KOTOR3 as a MMORPG hmmm not sure on this one, I was an original SWG player before CU and NGE came into the game and destroyed it,KOTOR3 as a MMORPG will have to be something special and learn from the SWG mistakes over the years, especially when you consider how many MMORPGs are out there or on the horizon.

The reason I don't like MMOs isn't because of the monthly fee, it's because I see them as basically grind-fests that artificially stretch out the gameplay to keep you coming back, and also for the monthly fee they're not fun enough.

I'd rather pay $15/mo for COD4 multiplayer and get access to new weapons, perks, and maps on a regular basis.

People don't hate MMOs because they're "kiddies" who "can't afford it." Most people who don't like them simply dislike the gameplay. Many dislike RPGs in general, but many like single player RPGs. The problem with MMOs is that there is no single player option if you don't like the online play. It's all or nothing.
