The fact that you limit yourself to 8-bit top-down RPGs does not make KOTOR suck.

who said i limited myself to them? i'm simply stating i liked the old RPG games better than the new ones. new ones have too much fluff to them. i actually tried kotor for about 2 hours and just did not like it. so i added that i don't care for the new type RPG's anyways. now a days they are all about graphics and moves (FFX for example) that take 2 minutes to execute. i hate that stuff, i would rather the move take 5 seconds and get on with my battle. i like to play my games, not watch them.

KOTOR was real time combat... you dont watch it you fight....
this just shows you didint play much...
bet you never even made it to jedi school..

no you don't actually 'fight' ... it is more of a diablo type fighting, not a zelda type fighting. i don't consider that 'fighting', but i also don't consider it FF based turn based fighting.

dude, so i don't like a game you like, get over it. sheesh.

How do you figure your not fighting.. if you turn on just attack and let it run youll get toally pwnd..
you need to move around like an FPS use your powers or yuoll die in like 2 seconds...

I'll snag it as soon as it comes out on the PC. KotOR has been the funnest PC game I've played in a *long* time. But I guess it had to be, as buggy and crash-prone as it was. If it had been any other game, I would have given up on it after the first day. As it was, I put up with crashes every 20-30 minutes for the 3 weeks or so I played until I finshed it. I wouldn't have done that with *any* other game.

Hopefully, the second one fixes some of those issues. The gameplay looks awesome as well.

I guess I was lucky then, I did have a few crashes but nowhere near that many. Still enough to make sure I saved frequently though.
Admittedly, once I got around to patching the game to the latest version (not too long before I finished it,) it became a bit more stable.

Maybe it was my system, but I often had trouble with level loading. After 3-4 of them, it seemed I had about a 50/50 of making it through the next one without exiting back out to the desktop. And one time, I appeared on the other side of a level load with one of my characters "stunned." Nothing I would do could "wake him," not even luring enemies towards him and attacking him. I finally had to reload a save game and lost about an hour inthe process. That's when I started saving every 10-15 minutes.

I was going to go back and replay the game on the Dark Side, but decided to just wait for KotOR 2 instead.

I'm just slightly ticked that earlier this year ie: August, when I was speaking with a LucasArts PR rep, the PC and Xbox versions were supposed to have the same release. I'll pick it up only when it's released for PC, which hopefully will be soon.

pretty dissapointed. Seems like an expansion pack. Definitely not worth $50. It's still fun of course, but it feels like kotor 1 with a different story and some added gimmicks

I absolutely loved KOTOR (the first one).

But...since LucasArts's oh-so-wonderful copy-protection scheme forced me to install the Warez crack for a game that was purchased at RETAIL, I will no longer be buying anything LucasArts puts out. The game worked fine until I installed an update patch, which insisted that I did not have the proper CD in my drive.:| And I tried both my Lite-on CDRW and my Pioneer DVDRW. A$$hats.

so far its a decent game. but is anyone else disappointed in the visuals? terrible framerate and the graphics werent even attempted to look better.

dude...you ALWAYS make a backup of the original exe when you crack the game.

Just rename the original to <game>.bak,
copy the crack over,
play!

When you need to patch, just change the name back...

I guess I wasn't clear. I installed the original game. I played for a few days with no problems. LucasArts released a new patch. I installed the OFFICIAL patch. Suddenly, KOTOR started insisting that I had the wrong CDROM in my drives. I tried all the tech support tricks I could find to solve the problem. I finally gave up, found a warez site, and installed a No-CD EXE. Problem solved.

The point is that LucasArts forced me, a sucker...er...customer, to jump through unnecessary hoops to play a game that was purchased for FULL retail price. This is pure BullSh** in my book. They have alienated a paying customer by treating me like a pirate.

so basically paying customers have a harder time playing than pirates do

way to go lucas

yes, i'm quoting myself. i take back what i said. the game is still as highly addicting as the first one. i played for 3 hrs last night and didnt realize it. if not for work, i'd still be playing right now.

hmm, question. When you're on that first space station, and they want you to go meet the guy "by yourself", doesn't that just mean turn on solo mode? I turn on solo mode with the main character, approach the door, but they keep saying "we told you to come alone, leave your companions." I can't leave them in another area because when u change places your team automatically comes together again. Anyone know whats up?

you make it sound like Lucas did all that stuff on purpose. I'm sure the patch just had some kind of incompatibility or glitch w/ your system/OS.

k well to answer my own question, and to possibly help everyone from a real potential headache... here's how you go into the room "by yourself". It's not about turning on solo mode, you have to go into the party selection screen and physically remove all the remembers from your party.

gripe/spoiler...

did it take anyone else 10+ hours just to get a lightsaber? or did i take too long.
by the way, Handmaiden
