we're each going with our natural inclinations for the first play-through 🙂

I was going to go back and replay the game on the Dark Side, but decided to just wait for KotOR 2 instead.

Dark side >> Light side

I absolutely loved KOTOR (the first one).

But...since LucasArts's oh-so-wonderful copy-protection scheme forced me to install the Warez crack for a game that was purchased at RETAIL, I will no longer be buying anything LucasArts puts out. The game worked fine until I installed an update patch, which insisted that I did not have the proper CD in my drive.:| And I tried both my Lite-on CDRW and my Pioneer DVDRW. A$$hats.

dude...you ALWAYS make a backup of the original exe when you crack the game.

Just rename the original to <game>.bak,
copy the crack over,
play!

When you need to patch, just change the name back...
I guess I wasn't clear. I installed the original game. I played for a few days with no problems. LucasArts released a new patch. I installed the OFFICIAL patch. Suddenly, KOTOR started insisting that I had the wrong CDROM in my drives. I tried all the tech support tricks I could find to solve the problem. I finally gave up, found a warez site, and installed a No-CD EXE. Problem solved.

The point is that LucasArts forced me, a sucker...er...customer, to jump through unnecessary hoops to play a game that was purchased for FULL retail price. This is pure BullSh** in my book. They have alienated a paying customer by treating me like a pirate.

you make it sound like Lucas did all that stuff on purpose. I'm sure the patch just had some kind of incompatibility or glitch w/ your system/OS.
This was a copy protection "glitch." I forget the exact error message that was generated after the patch, but it was copy-protection related. And it's up to LucasArts to TEST their crap before feeding it to the paying consumer. So, yes, LucasArts DID do this on purpose. They just didn't care enough about their customers to fully test a patch that was supposed to fix bugs, but instead created some crappy copy-protection scheme that screwed up. That's really too bad, because I would have shelled out $55 in a heartbeat to play KOTOR 2 if not for this snafu.

Any of you guys not get off of the first space station yet? Right after you're the droid and you open up the emergency hatch or something and it gets shot, I get black screen.

Only way I temporarily got past that is save/load but hten I just get turned into a dead droid after that.

I hate this game!!

just beat the game last nite as light side. i liked kotor1's story a lot more, but no complaints, it was a good game.

I played the game on the light side, but I didn't like the story and I hated the ending. The main story line just didn't seem to make that much sense to me. I didn't like the ending because it just left too many things unanswered. Maybe these things will be cleared up in KOTOR3, but I'll forget everything by the time it comes out.
