Kotaku top 50 endings

Looking at that list it would seem the people voting haven't been gaming for more than seven years. The few older titles in there they probably would have played from the various consoles marketplaces for retro games.

List like that just makes me sad, because that is what the average gamer is like now and what the market is aimed towards as well. At least the PC side isn't fully tainted and we have indies still....

edit: actually read the Kotaku article,

More than 13,000 fans voted for their favorite video game ending of all time for the Guinness Book of World Records 2012 Gamer Edition, and this is what they came up with? Call of Duty: Black Ops is the greatest video game ending of all time? Maybe I need to go play it again. Oh wait, BioShock made the list, it's obviously complete BS.

13K fans isn't a very good sample size, but the gaming generation that grew up on the current gen of consoles (PS3, 360, Wii) is trash. even the PC generation for this period isn't great

Starcraft 2 coming in at 34th is a huge indication of that. It's ending is not even comparable to Brood War's ending. Kerrigan was a villain in BW. Kerrigan was a tool in a poorly crafted "love story" in SC2: WoL.

We need, collectively, to stop responding to these retarded lists. They're obviously published to generate traffic - like this thread.

I think when PC gamer used to do their decent lists (a long time ago) most readers would just look at them and think "ok, fine".

But now they've learned that the stupider the list is the more controversy/traffic it generates.

The best solution is to install noscript in your browser and then not allow exceptions for Kotaku. Result? It doesn't load at all.

Portal again? and episode "Tow"? they didn't even proof read this shit. shows what they really think about this list.

I had to look up the entire Black Ops ending, having never played it (and spoiling it for myself in the process, but big whoop), and I'll certainly grant its ambition--but greatest ending ever? Nooooooo.

That said: there are three CoD games on the list, one Final Fantasy game--not the one I was expecting, but probably the most likely one by an order of magnitude--and no Panzer Dragoon games. Okay, nobody remembers those, but...riiight... <crumples up list and throws into trash>

Kotaku's downward spiral has just been... staggering. It's only taken them about two years to go from "pretty good" to "absolute shit that I won't read EVER." It's sad because I used to love going there daily, but right before the (terrible, TERRIBLE) Gawker layout overhaul they started slipping, and now they're just a laughable website.

We really need to stop posting these lists. Every single one is met with scorn and ridicule here (with good reason). At least take it to the console forum or something...

The fact that FF7 is not in the top 3 is just enough for me to never visit the site again!!!!!

wow, no FF9? Actually one of my favorite endings as well...huge disappoint.

They didn't actually make this list (it was compiled by Guinness) and Kotaku spends much of the article making fun of the list just like we are. At the end of the day I'm glad Kotaku posts stuff like this from time to time, good comic relief 🙂

FF8 was easily the best of all PS1 Final Fantasy games and happens to be better than the PS2 ones as well (though I liked FFX). FFIV is still the best overall in my mind.

Well that's good, gives them some credibility at least. Unfortunately I still stand by my last sentence in my last post.

Seriously? FF7? Can anyone who ever played FF7 able to give me an explanation of the ending to that game, because it made no sense. The only good thing about the ending was that it was a nicely rendered movie for its time.

Now if you want to talk about a seriously good ending, talk about Final Fantasy 6's. The ending was like 30 minutes long that nicely wrap up the story of every characters in that game as well as being quite emotional and leaving a deep gap in your heart when the credits finish rolling. It's quite unfortunate that FF7 was pretty much the first FF game to go mainstream so a lot of gamers only get to experience that game from there on out and completely miss the true epic Final Fantasies prior.
