Thanks to Entropism from FW; search there for "Koss" to find the promo code

Koss has a sale on their PortaPro headphones, normally $50, now $25 after promo code.

Shipping is around $5-6 IIRC.

These headphones are U-G-L-Y (you ain't got no alibi!) but man, for $25 you can't find a better pair. The bass response is phenomenal -- the rated 20hz low end frequency response is pretty damn close, you can FEEL the bass coming out of these things. Very clear sound too. My only complaint is the super-short 4' cord...and the fact that they look like relics from the 80's. But they fold nicely and come with a carrying case...

Thanks to Entropism also. These things have a nice feature. They have a pad to rest by the ear so not all of the pressure from the pads go on the ear. That sold me.

Just a warning, I bought a Koss car CD player from ubid a while back... it was full of problems. I successfully RMA'ed it within the first year, and they sent me their "upgraded" model (now under the ironic brand "Shatter") and it is also full of problems. It works, it's basically functional, but little more. Skips easily, lacks features, buttons don't quite all work right, etc.

So, my anecdotal experience tells me this is a "pay for what you get" company....

wouldn't the car cd player and headphones be part of a different department or something...? maybe you just happened to have gotten bad stuff...

I have heard great things about these headphones and I'm sure some more people will chime in soon.

Koss headphones are made in the USA... Milwaukee WI. Their stereo equipment is made overseas and is not top of the line stuff, like the headphones. Just FYI.

these phones are nice for the price and sound quality, but are FUGLY. i know at least two people who won't wear them outside because they are afraid of being made fun of.

These are high quality cans for the price. While they are not in the same league as some other budget favorites such as the grado sr-60s or sony mdr-v6s, they are very nice for the price. I speak from experience, as I am an owner of the Koss KSC-35s, which use the same drivers as the Porta Pros. In fact for $25, I might just pick some up for the hell of it.

these headphones are highly regarded by people who care about sound quality for portable use, you'd be hard pressed to find ANYTHING to come CLOSE to the sound quality of the koss prota-pro driver based models anywhere....

good deal

The Koss Sporta-Pros use the same drivers as the Porta-Pros and can be had anytime without discounts for $23.95 at Amazon. They are still pretty ugly, but these things are great for the money.

The porta pros are the best sounding open or closed phones for under $50, period. Earbuds or clipons are another matter, as are phones over $50.

BTW: This deal has been around forever. I think that this is a repost, but its good to get a "deal is still around" post, anyway.

That is just wrong.
