I read about a man in Japan who died while eating live octopus. He was trying to swallow it but the octopus refused to go down, and instead was trying to climb back up his esophagus. The man choked to death. This happened earlier this year.

Shouldn't you chew?

Score 1 for Octo!

I saw this, pretty gross, especially when that girl was holding that octupus that had it's tenicles stretched out all the way. But like they said it's been done for thousands of years so, yeah, whatever floats their boat.

yup koreans eat it live. its good... i have heard of an instance where the octopus's legs got loose and the person choked on it.

Raw fish is good too, i think they have cut it so fresh that the fish is still moving when you eat the sushi.

raw sea octopus is NOTHING compared to some of the more disgusting food some people eat...

I agree. People here just love bashing other cultures. I can cite examples of an American TV show (crap, forget the name! The host is also the announcer for UFC) where it had people eating cod fish sperm, live tomato worms, drink cow's blood, etc.

who's bashing? we're not saying koreans suck because of it. just saying it is weird. and while you can cite that tv show, fact remains, it is on the tv show because it is so novel and disgusting. i bet koreans don't put live octopus eating on tv shows, just like we don't put hamburger eating on tv shows.

They only eat gross crap like that because they don't have easy access to fast food and pizza like we do! Who needs squid when we have Easy Cheese?!?!?!

Stupid people don't chew before they swallow.

I was watching RealTV before...is this true?

Koreans eat LIVE baby octupus....they stick chopsticks in...then wrap the tenticles around, stick it in some sauce...and suck it off the chopstick?

I mean...I've seen some pretty gross stuff that people over the world eat...but LIVE octopus??? EEK!!

Hehe. I actually caught that show also... damn that host was annoying as hell though.

Yeah it's true. I actually been to that market. 😛 Woo, does it smell.

It was pretty hilarious how she was shoving it into his mouth and stuff, lol. At least it got him to shut up. Pretty gross but yeah, nothing usual I'd say. Every culture always has something "gross." Americans are probably the worst of all even.

What about CAT ASS coffee that sells for $150 a bag?

The coffee beans are fed to a specific breed of cat and then literally extracted from its sh*t.

Yes that is true, i've tried it and it was the best cup of coffee i have ever had...

It's cleansed and grinded before you ever get to drink it, so...

[edit] The Luwak only eats the best of the best, but some of that will pass through the intestines unharmed, that is what is used to make Kopi Luwak, these little critters are kittens on caffeine, if you have ever had a kitten, you would know that they are lively enough without the caffeine...

LMFAO!!! That logo is fscking hilarious.

About the octopus, what happens when the octopus squirts ink? Just keep on chewing?

Ugh.

Yeah, my friend isn't opposed to trying new foods. When he was in Taiwan he ate a raw shrimp - he said it was the most disgusting thing he's ever done - it's all slimy and crap.

<shudders>

Unless it's dead and cooked, I won't go near it.

When i was in Korea we went to a japanese restaurant

This meal was all seafood and actually it was the most incredible meal of my life (cost about $400 for 6 people)

This meal was more like a true work of art

they had a plate of octopus legs that were cut into about 1 inch long pieces and they were squirming. I tried my first ... had to force it from plate because those little suckers were holding on for dear life ... and all I can say is that it was the best tasting part of the meal. In fact I went back for seconds, thirds and fourths 🙂

They're babies, so i don't think they have their ink yet... at least i didn't see any ink squirting when i saw the guy on the Food network eat it.

My question is: Who was the first guy that thought about doing this... and how many experiments did he go through before figuring out that this was the best.
