Hahaha, goodbye, enjoy your vacation.

If people got vacations for that, most of P&N would be gone by now

Strats are overpriced to begin with - I'd look at some of the knockoff brands. One of the best guitarists that I know has been playing and loving his Hamer stratalike for the last 15 years. There are other guitars out there besides Fender and Gibson.

My first bass was a Hamer, and it was a POS.

And I've played American Standard strats that weren't worth the price of the strings. What's your point?

I guess my point is that I prefer french style cheesecake to New York style.

Agreed. I have an American Strat and the Mexi I had a few years ago was just as good. I bet if you pulled five Mexi's off the wall at any given music store, at least one would be a truly great guitar.

American has the best quality of the three. Between Korean and Mexican it depends on which model you get. For example, the Lite Ash Strat made in Korea beats any Mexican Standard. But the Classic or Deluxe series made in Mexico are very close in workmanship to American.

For $500, the best you can do is probably find a used American Standard, or a Lite Ash or Classic series Strat on sale. Japanese Strats are harder to find but they are definitely also worth considering.
