Korean leaders forget about Trump, meet on their own.

At some point Moon might well decide he doesn't need (or want) the US in order to get something done.

What makes strategic sense for SK is to acquire nukes of their own and achieve parity with Kim, but that's probably hard to do discretely. They possibly could work out a deal with Israel.

Israel's help would not be required.

I'd actually be surprised at this point if SK did not possess a small but advanced laser enrichment facility with the capacity to generate HEU for several weapons a year and even a limited stockpile of near weapons grade material ready for use in such a facility. This kind of facility would be difficult to detect since they are relatively small and use a lot less power than centrifugal enrichment. From their history it's clear they have experimented with this and actually got caught twice, once extracting plutonium and once enriching uranium to 77% U-235.

One SK scientist said that their breakout time is 6 months.

We really should pull out of SK, keep the bases ect at least with minlam maintenance. With our assurance that we will come back if necessary. But I belcie they achieve better outcome without US involved.

When NK attacks/invades it will be very similar to 1950-a full scale all hands on deck. And armies can move a whole lot faster these days. Seoul is 40 miles from the DMZ.

"we will come back if necessary" is going to have to be accomplished in minutes or hours, or a day at the most-your plan will never work.

I do agree with your conclusion that the Koreas should ignore Trump and see what they can do on their own. The USA, under Trump's leadership is, to put it mildly, an ally not to be relied on (Israel and Trump's ally Russia excepted).

I just don't believe NK would invade SK.

Please. The N Koreans had the backing of the USSR & China at the time. They obviously will not today, not if they initiate hostilities. For them to be attacked would be a whole different thing.

N Korea holds Seoul hostage against attack. To attack N Korea would be to say "Just shoot the guy for all I care."

I think it's all contrived bullshit for domestic political purposes, just like it was during the GWB years. At least I hope so because the consequences of attacking N Korea are incalculable.

That would be the best outcome for everyone. The only reason for the US to be involved is to write a check for a few billion every year for the rest of eternity.

so the meeting may happen. With Denuclearization and everything! We should start a pool to see who gets what after the summit.

if he wants anything meaningful to be done, it will be done without the US as long as the Trump administration is in place
